Very cool purchase, and the car looks like it has allot of potential to be cleaned up and become really nice.
Hi folks,
Well, I've got some good news. I've finally bought my very own hachi. Oh boy!
Loving the rust in the hatch!
Just a quick background on me:
I am a huge fan of Toyota and I'm even a Toyota Trained Technician (apprenticeship completed through Toyota). I have always dreamed of owning an AE86 after drifting came to town in 2004. I remember spending all my apprentice wages on JDM Option Videos from Autobarn (still got price tags on them and damn they were expensive!) and just studying all the different ways the Japs built hachiroku's.
Cars I've owned:
In the past I have owned a few KE70's, a 4dr R33 Skyline (yeah, I visited the dark side for a while), JZX83 (sold it before it was finished), MS137 Crown (really nice car, but the rear air bags let me down... pun intended). My current daily is an Echo and also bought the wife a ZRE182 Corolla last year, so yeah... the Toyota flag in the garage fly's high. haha
Enough about me, more about my AE86, right?
So the car was imported by Craig at Just JDM Imports at the start of 2015, landed in July 2015. He had it advertised on his website for a while. I contacted him regarding a red hachi he is currently restoring, knowing he had this blue one too. I went to have a look at the red one, but it was a tad too expensive and I decided it was now or never so the blue one deserved a closer look (money talks). So I paid Craig another visit and put the magnifying glass over this blue Levin. After convincing the wife that buying another car was the right thing to do... it was just a matter of getting the car complied and then organising a trailer and tow car to pick it up (from Caboolture).
Detailed information on the car is not available. As far as I'm aware, Craig was importing it for himself and was going to rip it apart to see what it's got.
Okay, here's what I know:
NOTE: These wheels didn't come with the car

I'll be buying a house soon and that's a pretty time consuming process, so apologies for delayed updates that may occur.
I am however trying to source a Recaro passenger rail (passenger seat is just floating around inside the car right now), maybe in exchange for a drivers rail I have spare.
The car will remain unregistered until we move house and I have room to work on it (single garage blues happening at the moment), but I want to tidy it right up (rust repair & engine bay clean) too.
Thanks for reading.

Hey thanks Matt.
The previous owner(s) in Japan seem to have set it up in a really specific way, which is awesome. It makes it unique. I'll try and honour what they have done and just add my personal touches (ok, I say this now, but just wait a few years and it'll be white with fat watanabes and an Origin kit haha).
I'll give it a wash this weekend and take some more/better pics and upload.
Cheers.
A pretty good base Andy.
Needs some TLC but it's mostly all there
Gauge set-up in the glove box is bizarre haha.

Hey thanks Jarrod. Yeah it really does need some TLC by an enthusiast like me haha!
I can see the potential it has though and that's a big motivation for me.
The gauges in the glove box are held in with a large block of dense foam.
looks like a great start to turn it into something awesome
where abouts on the goldy are you mate? would love to pop around some time to check this thing out
Hey J-D, thanks mate. Located in Carrara. I'll send you a PM.
So I've got half an update for ya'll! Yes I need to clean the car!
Got insurance on the car (went with Shannons and chose their "laid up" cover which is good for cars that are unreg/won't be moved under their own power).
This meant that the new Corolla had to go back in the garage (only got a tiny single garage atm). Yeah, it was fun pushing the stiff little hachi around. It gets harder when you turn, so that means tight diff! (don't burst my bubble, it's what it means, ok) hahaha
Ok, so I've taken some updated pics of the interior
Complete carpet (in delicious navy blue) but still rough looking wheel arches.
These are the only scars on the dash
Show us your foam block! Drop the glove box on race day, keep an eye on them temps/pressures!
Wow, look at that. It's a mostly complete interior!
and the rust
This is the RHR window:
And this is the hatch (it's all the way thru... but can be saved)
Underside of hatch:
Small amount under the seals (all very fixable):
I wanna put an OEM plastic wing on it. What ya reckon?
Who knows how to translate this??? Mystery switch on the dash. OFF seems to be a pretty important setting...
Special horn pad with hidden Nardi underneath:
You gotta love stickers! October 2014 rego sticker?
And the paint is peeling on my windscreen trims (left and right only)
Close ups of my wheels. I also really like the wheel nuts! Golds are SSR. Blacks are Volks.
Thanks for watching!

Part of the fun of buying a new car is the discovery of weird stuff.
That button seams pretty serious, could very likely be the fuel pump or something along those lines, but is difficult to know. I'll ask a guy at work if his wife can translate the writing for you.
Even with the new pics, it is still a good score. Laid up insurance is great for the projects whilst you are working on them.

Thank Matt.
Yeah, I know it's not much to look at right now (fkn dirty to be honest), it makes me very excited.
Imma take ma time with thissun.
That steering wheel isnt a nardi its the intial d steering wheel. mint ones sell can sell between $1000 and $1500...might be worth getting it restored.
MOPAR or no car!
