    Default Dan's AE86 Panda Trueno

Hey guys, my name is Daniel. I have been lurking around these forums for some time now and thought it was about time to contribute!

For just over a year now i have owned a AE86 Trueno GT Apex, Kouki. It was imported via a friend in Japan to here in Sydney. I checked the car all over when it came and found that the owner had kept it in great condition and almost completely stock (just a fujitsubo exhaust and watanabe rims). The car has had almost no rust repairs and the chassis is in great condition with 144,XXX KMS on the clock. No accidents and about 95% original paint. There is minor damage to the body, front and rear bumper but i have used touch up paint and other methods to make it look better.

I have spent a lot of time removing everything in the car and cleaning the whole car so that it will stay in good condition. This is my weekend/project car so as far as modifications go, i have been working from the ground up starting with suspension, wheels etc. I recently got a wheel alignment at Heasman Steering and Suspension and Doug there did a great job! The car feels great to drive and i have a TRD 1.5way LSD with a 4.773 final drive ready to go in, which should transform the car heaps compared to stock. I plan to do modifications to my engine later just have to sort out exactly what i want before i go ahead.
Here are some photos that was taken by people at Heasmans (better than my phone camera)

Last weekend i wrapped my exhaust headers in DEI Titanium heatwrap, was quite tedious but ended up looking quite good. The headers in the photo still need the bottom section to be wrapped, which is done now.

This weekend I finally had time to fix the faded rear indicators and they turned out great!

Holy jeez, Daniel. You win. This is a sweet ride.

You've cleaned it up really well. Did you keep the wats? They always look good on pandas / trueno's / ae86's!!!

I'm hanging out to see pics of the interior now. You know how to keep us wanting more! haha

P.S. I really want to know your method for the faded indicator lenses. Turned out a treat!

    Thanks for the comments guys!

Yes I definitely did keep them! they are in great condition but a little small. they are 14 x 6, either way they look great so not going to get rid of them!

In regards to the tail lights I used meguiars professional headlight and spot repair kit. Since lights/lenses are made from plastic they dull over time due to sun damage and tiny (sometimes big) scratches in the plastic... So with this kit your essentially sanding down the plastic very slightly to remove these scratches. At the end you apply 2 creams to add the final touch! (a cutting compound, then finishing compound)
Since my tail lights were not too bad I used 500P, 800P, 1000P, 1500P, 3000P (sanding discs) and the 2 creams.

I personally find this kit is very good as it can make the light/lens look brand new for several years! I have done it to many times to other peoples cars with great results..
Here is an example: from Audi A4. There are much deeper scratches and chips etc in the lens although you cant really see it in the photo. Obviously it looks much better as well because it is a clear lens compared to the result of the orange lens on the toyota

Not a problem. Just to clarify, the sanding discs that come in this kit are a special type made for plastic (not the same as metal or wood sanding discs)

I will try to post some pictures of the interior over the weekend.. Also hopefully installing the diff + final drive tomorrow!

+1 on Toyota Echo headlights fading badly!
