Default AE86 Disc & Drum Rear End Differences

    Hi all,

Looking to do a T-series swap on my ADM Sprinter.

Besides the actual diff itself, what are the other pieces will need work when upgrading from drums to discs.

Some things I've thought might need doing

    - Brake master for disc rear end
    - Proportioning valve
    - handbrake cables
    - brake lines

Is there anything I've got wrong there, and anything I've missed?

There's two main ways of doing this:

1 - Jap diff born with discs. Personally I think these are expensive, with average brakes and apparently a very average handbrake. I don't have much experience here regarding the rest of your points.

2 - T series diff from something originally drum braked. T18 is a straight fit, others can be adapted relatively easily. Then add drum brakes from a live axle ST131 or similar Corona. Usually cheap, with a very good handbrake.
    - You can use the standard master. I've used an R32 non-ABS master (3 port).
    - Using the R32with the proportioning valve completely removed (lines running directly to the master) the bias seems good.
    - Take the rear section of the handbrake cables from the Corona too (they're attached to the brakes, so it's hard not to take them). You can use a shorter front handbrake cable section so lengths suit. St162 or SV11 maybe, Parrot wrote a good description of the different options on Toymods about 100 years ago.
    - Stock rubber line to the diff has suited when I've done it. Also with the R32 master the stock hard lines suit too. The front right only **just** reaches though.

But there are multiple ways to do it. I'm sure others will be able to help with other options.

I completely agree with the above, a small correction though is I think the model of Corona is the choice of either from an St141 or an RT142. There is a guide on Toymods for it but it.

This is a good conversion and I do suggest it if it's within your means. I just gutted the internals of the factory brake proportioning valve and it's almost perfect to the right bias but then my front brake calipers have huge pistons which would change effect that. I also admit that I did something crude by using both the original Corona hand brake cables and just fitting a spacer on the end of the handbrake cable. This pulls the cable further to take up the difference in slack.

Another option is the fitting Nissan S13 calipers, I don't know anything about this option, see if Dave from AJPS has some conversion brackets for it.

    Thanks for the tips guys.

When changing from an ADM S-Series to a JDM T-series or the like can I use my ADM tailshaft?

No, you need the rear half of T series tailshaft. It should bolt up to the front half of the S series tailshaft.
