It's easiest to find a 7rib block that supports the knock sensor
Hi there; hoping someone can help me out with a query.
I am planning to re-rebuild my Bluetop / Bigport with high-comp pistons (looking at 12:1 Spool kit).
I want to run a knock sensor but while my block is a 7-rib (42mm journals) it is an early version and as such does not have a raised boss+tapped hole between bores 2 & 3; which is the standard mount pt for the OEM knock sensor.
It does however have a raised boss between bores 1 & 2. Would an OEM GZE / AE111 type sensor mounted here give accurate readings?
I have also heard that more modern screw-through type sensors as-per an SR20 unit may work better in non-std locations due to better microphone. . .
Comments?

Yes maybe look for another block so you can build a bottom end while you keep the car on the road.
Pretty easy to weld a nut to the side of the block prior to boring and honing, I've done so several times in the past if you can't come across a good spare block.
