cool, be interested to see how you get on with it... after getting a 2nd opinion from a mate and also talking to Craig again I've decided to try and keep the blue belts that came with the car for the moment.. a mate of mine discovered that the belts will actually lock up if you tug on them twice in quick succession.. I'm 95% sure they would lock up in the event of an emergency.. so I'm going to see if I can get through roadworthy with them and then test them on an emergency stop on the road.. if they don't work in that situation I'll swap them out somehow...

not perfect, but pretty happy for 10 mins work and $0 outlay (used a headlight restoration kit I had laying around in the shed)

trying to decide if to buy a LEVIN decal for it or leave it as is.. opinions?

looks like I will have to find a new spot for the oil filter relocation too, as the new grill wont fit on with it there... also the old grill is held on with zip ties, so need to find some screws/bolts to attach the new one.. and also decide if I'm going to butcher the zenki headlights or look for some kouki headlights.. which I haven't budgeted for either... so in summary it might be a little while before I put the grill and fogs on...

confirmed there is a slight oil leak, but I haven't investigated where it's coming from yet.. still hopeful for a rwc and rego this week, I'm hanging out to actually drive the thing!

spoke to QLD Transport today about getting registration.. apparently I need the import approval paperwork, as the car has never been registered they treat it as a new import.. had to call up DIRD, thankfully they have the approval on file and I have emailed them to get them to send it to me... amazingly both QLD Transport and DIRD people were really friendly and helpful, not what I was expecting at all!... now I just have to wait the 5 business days for DIRD to send me the email with the paperwork.. so rego next week.. maybe...

had a good look for the oil leak, engine looks really clean.. think the oil leak might be coming from the sump.. it's only very slight so I'll just see how it goes for a bit.. got a plan for moving the oil filter relocation.. and looked up the part numbers for the screws etc for the grill.. they are common to a few toyota's so toyota aus should stock them, and hopefully they aren't at crazy prices...

Hey Matt, let me know if I can help with anything. Just swing me a text or call. Also, I have a few genuine Toyota E1 filters in my garage. Not sure if they will fit on the sandwich plate (same thread?) but the motor could do with an oil change (seeing how I never did it).

will do.. I've been debating dropping the oil and taking off the filter as part of moving the relocated filter... got as far as this yesterday before throwing in the towel due to heat in the shed (I'm soft lol):

yes, bit of a relief that DIRD have it on file and it's all good.. I assumed that because it had been complied that everything was fine.. I should have checked the chassis # with DIRD before buying, but dodged a bullet so I'm happy. 1 business day of waiting down, 4+ to go

    bought these yesterday:

decided to put the fog light brackets on today and trial fit the fog light grill... managed to get the oil filter relocation to work with it by angling it slightly backwards...

will just monitor that and see how it goes.. I think long term it might be better to move it somewhere else..

I must say, I'm loving how easy this car is to work on (so far, touch wood)... I guess having a reasonably well stocked tool kit helps though.. this job was yet another job where these came in handy:

if you haven't got a set and are debating if they are worth it.. they are worth it.. just buy them

trial fit ended up into more of a zip tie installed job done:

fogs aren't installed because I couldn't bring myself to cut off the grill tabs on the zenki headlights... yet..

decided the thing could do with a wash... paint is.. interesting.. there's spots where it's quite good and then there's other bits.. lol.. if it was in good condition all over I'd be tempted to keep it.. the colour is growing on me and it does look nice in the sun, but as it's going to need to be painted I'll probably change to either black or a deep grey.. or do the grey/black scheme...
