Default How much is a Starlet KP61 worth?

    Hi all,

New to the forums. I'm a Perth guy who has owned a 1983 Toyota Starlet (badged as a Corolla), model E-KP61-PGKNS for nearly 20 years. When I first bought it it was my daily driver, but since 2004 it's been a second car for me. It has the 4K-U engine and has done about 211,000km.

This car was my first ever car and I've kept it all of these years because it's been reliable and I guess because of the sentimental value more than anything, being my first ever car. But every now and then, I've had someone stop me on the road and offer to buy it from me. And for some reason, every time this has happened the guy offering to buy it has been Irish. Apparently the Irish love KP61s!

This happened again just recently and I've been struggling to decide whether or not to sell. If I do sell, any rough idea on what a KP61 is worth? I know they're very rare in Australia, but even still have no idea what fair value is. I've been searching online for the last couple hours which is how I found these forums. Any info appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Just

Here in the states, they're not as rare. But still very valuable.
I payed $3,600 U.S. for mine and it's not in great shape.
I saw a few for 2 and 3 times more while I was searching.
Running and original...I'd say $4,000 without a second thought.
BTW the '83 and '84 is called the KP62 here.
This is my '81 KP61 with transplanted 4A-GE engine. It has a rough street value of 5K plus in its current state.
Most interested parties here are Puerto Rican or from the Caribbean.

Thanks Zeropilot. I take it they were all private imports in the US (as in, they were never sold locally), just like here in Australia?

    Any other opinions/advice welcome...

No. They were sold here from 1981 to 1984. But cost as much as a Corolla and were never really popular.
This is my 3rd. The last two cost me under $300 at the time.
This one was over $3,400 needing a TON of work.
