    Question A terribly seized axle

    Hi new member here,
First time posting so im hoping i dont screw it up.

i have a 1986 gts corolla. Im trying to take my rear axles out so i can drop the diff, and take it to a guy to get it rebuilt. Ive taken out the right axle but the left axle is stuck inside the housing. Ive tried to heat up the bearing housing with a torch. Ive been trying to use a slide hammer. Ive used almost a whole bottle of PB blaster in 3 days. i put on a trash wheel backwards, and hit it with a sledge hammer. My strong russian homie came over to try swinging the sledge hammer at the slide hammer. also ive drained the diff and tried to spray it, and the axle with PB blaster during all of this. Ive also tried a couple other little things that may or may not have helped. I have no clue what to do at this point. Im starting to feel depressed because i cant come up with a solution.

    Please help me.

    Thanks,
    Ryka M

Is it an LSD rear end?
I think the limited slip diff has a clip inside and not just the retainer plate inside the back wheel housing. But I'm not positive.
Have you looked an an exploded view picture of the diff? Maybe on a Toyota parts site?
Hopefully someone will be along soon that can say whats going on for sure.

yes my car did some with an LSD. Thats what i thought too, but if that were the case the right axle would never have come out.

There's no clips it should come apart if the flange bolts are undone and the caliper and disc is out of the way. Maybe heat the casing after freezing the axle itself, reverse interference fit to give looser tolerances, then go hard with the slide hammer. Whack it in a couple of times then out to free it up. Or simply heat it till its red hot and try again.

After you get the axle out, but before pressing on a new bearing have a machine shop verify that the axle flange has not been bent from all the hitting. If you have a dial indicator you could check run out yourself. The face may need a surface cut to true up the mounting flange. Don't ask how I know. Davew7
