    Default ignition problem

    another electrical problem!!!!!

    car-ke70

    motor-4k stock as a rock

right so.... my car wont start but it will start.
i can switch the starter motor on and it turns over as per usual. but then when i turn the key back 2 the ON position on the ignition it just stops.
now if i turn the starter motor on and just turn the key back a little so its still in the START position but the starter motor isnt turning. i can rev it as much as i want even drive while holding the key in that sweet spot.
so it not a fuel problem as i 1st thought

so i think something is wrong with the wire that keeps the engine running in the ON position. keep in mind i still hav power with the ignition ON (radio and warning lights)

and i hav checked both engine fuses also (in engine bay and dash)

this occured just after i washed my with a high pressure water gun drove in fine no symptoms started perfect minutes earlier. so im thinkin i got water in that wire and storted it out or something. also engine bay didnt get wet at all

sounds to me like your ignition barrell itself is stuffed.

since it sounds like the wiring is actually working, but the switching mechanism is playing up. since you say you can get it to run if you keep it in the "Sweet spot"

in my old car (old mazda) the the ignition switch died, and it was a pain in the butt. easy to change though.

im pretty sure on the ke70 (like the old mazda i had) the ignition switch is screwed to the ignitial barrell (key bit) buy one or 2 small screws. you can then take out the switch out of the ignition barrell. it should have a few plugs attaching it to the rest of the loom. wreckers job!

Exactly the same problem I had/have in my 86, its so random too, will be fine for 2 months then outa nowhere while I'm driving or at the lights it will just shit itself. sometimes I have to hold the key while driving for 1/2 an hour, sometimes just a quick flick and its good, very temperamental.

Mind you the car has been off the road for the past 10 months, just purchased (last week) a new ignition plug/switch thanks to a heads up from another member (you know who you are) was on ebay and quite cheap.

Before this though I changed so many things trying to get to the bottom of the problem... hoping the new switch I bought fixes it up... driving manual with a button clutch and trying to hold the key in that fucking sweet spot is an extreme pain in the ass.

there is a white plug that comes just of the +ve battery terminal. i think it has 2 or three wires in it. one of which is quite thick.

one time on my old ke70, this plug got shit in it and stopped the car from starting. (with similar symptoms as yours.)

pull that plug apart and clean it up and see how you go
