    Default The Car

I thought I'd post up a new rides thread to welcome my newest member of the family.

This will have been the 5th E7 I've owned.

    Here it is then:

I really don't know WTF is up with that gear knob though, its fucked as. I need to find myself a stock knob.

    Current specs:
    Manual CS-X AE71
    El-bodgo carpet half ripped out
    Non CS-X rims
    4AC with blown head gasket
Basically a well used country car

Principals under which the car will be built:
    - Car is to have only bolt in mods (for easy reshell)
    - All work is to be done by myself (I don't know how to do something, I'll learn)
    - I don't really care what the body looks like so long as it drives well
    - Wherever possible all modifications will be done in such a way to appear standard or more standard than otherwise. (by no means an easy feat with most things)
    - If there is a genuine Toyota part which works, it will be sourced.

    Default Current Progress

These are the latest updates on each part of the build:
    Car Exterior:
Still looks the same as a year ago, except maybe the rust holes are a little bigger.

Loving the towbar, I think it might have to stay

    Engine:
    Painted engine block

    Gearbox:
Gearbox partially apart, awaiting further tools to proceed

    Diff:
Just chilling in standard MX13 form, waiting till the engine and gearbox rebuilds are finished.

This one looks like a pig in comparison to my red AE71. But in saying that its not too bad a shell from what I can see. I honestly have had fuck all time to even look over it, I just picked it up the other evening. But as far as I can see its reasonably rust free, the rails are straight and un crushed too. There are little bits of surface rust here and there, but not much which has gone cancerous.

But anyway, I'm not planning on doing anything to fix the body, but I might change my mind. I'm basically after pig which looks trashy but has money spent in all the right areas.

After all, I've got my daily 71 for the super clean car.

I'm aiming to hopefully complete stage one by the end of the year. That largely depends on funds though, but since I've started a full time job now that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Got some better photos up now.

When I have time I'm going to pull the bump strips off and remove the CS-X stripes.
Badges will remain there, I can't remember their condition though, if the silver has come off them a lot I'll probably spray them black.

Also leaning toward widened steelies. 14 x 8 or something thereabouts. I'll have to see what 114.3 x 4 14inch steelies there are to choose from in my mates wrecking yard. The only downside I can see from them is that they'd be heavy.
But a big plus for me is that I could have many made up so I could easily swap rims at track days and still have a matching set on the car.

Anybody in the Wollongong-Sydney area had steel wheels widened? If so how much and where?

The other thing I've been thinking about is what I want to do with the body work. Its not a VERY rusty car, but its got plenty of little bits coming through here and there. Being a white car though its pretty easy to spray patches and blend the paint well enough that you wouldn't easily see that its been sprayed without close inspection.

At the same time I'd really love to have a total shit-spec body. There is just some classy appeal to me of the motorfix cars and I just love the beaten up, rusty, slammed look. But on the flip side this thing will not be engineered and be road registered at least for now.

The sensible side of me is winning atm so I think the car will basically look something like this
    Outside:
Surface rust sanded back and sprayed white
    Bump strips removed, stripes removed
    Bumpers sprayed matt black
    Badges sprayed matt black
Possibly spray the handles matt black
    Matt black widened steelies

    Inside:
Swap dash out for uncracked dark blue
Put in majority of dark blue dash
Stripped door trims (down to the Masonite sprayed dark blue)
Dark blue carpet with all sound deadening removed
    Dark blue CS-X passenger seat
    Dark blue drivers bride recliner
Dark blue CS-X rear seats (when on the road)

Might to a photochop to show my vision.
