    Arrow ATESIX project

    Finally introducing my ae86 project:

My name is Ken and i'm currently a 4th year apprentice spray painter.

I bought my 86 back in 2007 when i was just a 1st year. I bought the car for $600 wanting to learn and slowly build as my project/weekend pride&joy. Although it was a bargain i knew it would be hard work ahead of me, as well as a learning curve in becoming a qualified spray painter.

Many thanks go out to a number of people as well as ae86dc, the sponsors and hachiroku for parts, inspiration and help. Also a BIG part of this project is my gf, she helped me so much with ideas, feedback and motivating me to finish

    Specs:
to be continued/edited - more photos and posts will be added when i have more time and along the process

    Before

    After
    still to come

STAY TUNED HEAPS MORE TO COME!!!

    .. and so it begins!

The 86 had a dodgy spray can job, a few repairs needed to be done, the interior condition was alright and the 4ac was in reasonably good condition for now.

I used thinners to wipe down the spray can job to see what the original colour looked like and to see any repairs needed. I then paint stripped the bonnet, guards and doors back to bare metal. It was hard getting rid of the paint with the ridiculous amount of layers on it. Thank god because i hated seeing the tacky spray can job then it was ready to repair and prime for the time being.

I started stripping the car, interior and whatever i could off.

As i stripped the car down, i also started searching for all the rust i could find in the usual spots and anywhere else on the car ..

.. then BEHOLD everyone's worst rust nightmare!!!

For $600 i knew i was in for a very long yet frustrating challenge. But as i said, it's a "learning curve" for me. The hatch on the car was so bad i had to buy another decent one .. the new one still had a few rusts on the corners but not as bad as my previous hatch so it was still repairable.

hehe shhh .. time will tell, you guys are gonna have to just wait and see. i've painted her already but i'm just slowly putting the posts up when i have time.

let's just say it's intense and popping. nothing outrageous like hot pink or anything but it's a familiar colour ..

During that time as a 1st year apprentice, the wage as expected wasn't that much .. but i still saved and hung in there to get this project done wherever i could. So back then, i saved the money to get the rusts repaired.

This workshop i took it to cut the rusted metal off and welded the new metal onto all the areas that were really bad. I told them i would wire wheel it down then bog it at home, so all they did after the welding was put the sealer on the metal to stop it from rusting. Here's a few snaps of the rust repair to show ..
