Get better fool you need to get skidding!
And another update!
Well, unfortunately due to what was at the time an almost certain sale of my house, I came to the tough conclusion to sell my 4AGTE package and the AE71 it was bolted in, as I would have had nowhere to keep it when I had to move
But,
As events turned out, the house didn't sell, and still hasn't, so I've now just gone back to a basic plan for my car so I can just get her on the road again
So with all of that aside, this is the latest:
- Smallport 4AGE conversion
- Flared rear guards (minus paint)
First step of the conversion was to find a suitable engine for the job. Saw one here that was perfect for me, due to the seller's misfortune of a truck side swiping him and being dragged along a concrete wall...Truck 1, AE86 0. Anyway, got up early one day, drove to Newcastle, picked up AE86 wreck, then returned home again 14 hours later!
A few weeks later, with the help of Jake (Jdm Mcc), in one afternoon we had the 4A out of the AE86 and into my KE.
Step 1: Disconnect everything that connects the engine to the body. Having a friend to disconnect and mark the wiring so it doesn't get fucked up may be necessary.
Step 2: Unbolt crossmember and drop the engine and gearbox in one hit.
Step 3: When engine can not be lowered any more, what else can you do but lift car above engine!
Step 4: Whilst lifting car, roll it back from engine then lower onto stands. This process may need to be repeated multiple times until engine is clear of body.
Step 5: Reverse previous steps to get engine into new car.
Step 6: Stand back and look at messy as fuck engine bay. Use this time to decide on which thingo to reconnect first.
I havn't got an up to date photo of it, but as it stands now, all the wiring is done, fuel pump is mounted but just need the lines connected, and I need to swap the AE86 tailshaft and diff over, then once they are done it'll be back on the road!
So close, but so far with it at the moment, as due to being sick as, I havn't been able to work on it at all over the last 3 days. Many props to Jake and his bro though for their efforts on Sunday helping put everything back together.
Get better fool you need to get skidding!
Having Tonsillitis and Glandular Fever over the last couple of weeks has been a complete bitch, however, as shit as I have felt, I've been chipping away at this car. This evening after work went sort of like this though:
Yes!!
I ended up modifying the standard KE70 pedal box to make it hydraulic. Seemed faster, easier and cheaper than getting your one Appreciate the offer anyway though!
Also, quite annoyed at the moment with this.
It should have already been back on the road as of last weekend, however, as always nothing goes quite to plan so it probs will be still a couple of weeks till it is driving.
Pretty much had a productive weekend on it. Removed the old exhaust system from the AE86 wreck and then proceeded to make it fit on the KE. After a couple of hours with help from my old man, we had the exhaust completed and also had the radiator mounted and everything in the engine bay sorted.
From there the last thing to do was to connect the tail shaft. This is where the problems started...Firstly, the tail shaft from the 86 did not suit the nose of the KE diff, and the KE tail shaft didn't suit the new gearbox. Plan was to split them and have the front half 86 and rear KE, but unfortunately I couldn't split the KE one so I decided I'd just remove my 340000km old diff and replace it with the 86 one. Was the best option as my diff whines like a bitch, and the S series one from the sprinter is a touch stronger (No by much!).
Anyway, we pulled out my diff, went to the 86 and proceeded to remove the diff out of that. Half way through removing it I realized that the 86 diff had a bent axle...So now I have come to a stand still which is a complete pain in the ass as it is so close to being on the road!
Currently waiting/hoping for a guy in Melbourne to send me another axle so I can get it finished.
well done man i dono how u contained yourself when my 20v kicks over for the first time il be jumping for joy i dow ith all my projects haha
i personally think Borgies are better than s series', axels are stronger. Have a friend thats done 14 of them
Should just get an ae71 tail shaft?
