There are several places you can have steering play.

The bush in the left side of the rack can wear. It would rattle, or cause the steering to leak, but probable won't make must steering wheel play.

Where the rack and pinion mesh is adjustable. That can have play, and be re adjusted. The top adjuster is the pinion bearing adjustment. Hard to get to without the rack out of the car and the right tools. The side adjustment is the mesh. But it is spring loaded also, so rarely a problem.

Rack ends, are the most common cause of play. Easy to buy and replace. Get new boots also.

Outer tie rod ends also a common cause. Easy to buy and replace.

If the ball joint is worn on the end of the lower control arm, that is another cause of play.

Check wheel bearings while your at it.
