Hey guys,

Quick one, we have a good 1/2" torque wrench that can do up bolts, but cant do less than 20nm. I know you can get 1/4 wrenches but not to keen on forking out for this one thing. :P

How do you guys do up your cam cap bolts? there only supposed to be torqued to 9/10nm, and most of the wrenches ive seen don't go that low?

Help is appreciated as always!
Cheers,
Robo.

Do mine up with a torque wrench. Some people ive heard dont bother torqueing them up to spec (as long as they are done in the correct sequence) but I wouldn't.

My 1/2" wrench goes down to 6-7Nm so i'm kinda lucky ive got a nice range :)

Maybe best to rent one out?

yeah i dont use a torque wrench now but i spose i have done enough to now the feeling of when its tight.

i would recommend getting one though. do it once do it right and save yourself dramas.

i have seen some pretty fucked up shit happen from people doing them up to tight. you dont wana end up like they did

Buy a 3/8 drive torque wrench, get the best of both worlds.

They generally have about a 0-100nm range on the full size 3/8 ones.

correct order, and even tension are the most important things to do before torque. if you have a good feel for it then you should be able to get it close enough not to worry. if your worried then borrow one from a nice mechanic/eng builder etc.

I do it with a half inch drive one. I've just got one exactly the same as the one pictured in the 4AGE book. Its 20+ years old though, so I don't know where you'd get one now.
