hey guys i have a 4age 16v jdm bigport. The car is going to be used as a streeter/ track car. The plan is to turbo it and run 10 or so psi of boost (not sure yet) so i just need some help with a few things.. this is what i have so far or will have.. hks cams 256 and 264, adjustible cam gears,t-25 turbo/ fitting kit and going to buy an adaptronic ecu..now for the questions
what pistons should i use and where do i ge them?
what rings should i use and where do i get them?
what conrods do i use and where to i get them?
will the stock crank hold up?
where do i get a stud kit from?
what head work should i get and what valve springs?
will the stock oil pump hold up?
should i get an oil cooler?
what injectors should i get?
thats all i can think of atm, so if anyone has built one or has any ideas i would be greatful to hear your ideas
Cheers Wade

what pistons should i use and where do i ge them? gze, new, toyota
what rings should i use and where do i get them? genuine toyota
what conrods do i use and where to i get them? gze, second hand or toyota maybe..
will the stock crank hold up? i've only seen one 4age crank and it's expensive upgrading them so i think stock should be fine
where do i get a stud kit from? bursons
what head work should i get and what valve springs? don't need head work, when it comes to turbo motors i wouldn't waste my time with that sorta thing
will the stock oil pump hold up? haven't heard of many of them failing
should i get an oil cooler? if you're oging to strain it, can get em pretty cheap now, should if you can afford to
what injectors should i get? could get away with gze injectors i think
microtechs also go well with these engines, cheap as too,
none of this i know first hand but i have a fe wmates with turbo rollas and have read up on them a lot

it depends whether you get gze rods from a bigport or smallport gzes from an aw11 are bigport, the others are smallport but hell i might be wrong

just bolt the turbo kit onto the stock bigport, add ze injectors, ecu and a good tune
works fine

ae92 afm dli were bigport.
gze pistons will work but are only 20mm wrist pins
gze rods a good but are only 20mm wrist pins 42mm crank (ae92/aw11 ones are the big ones) (all gze rods are 20/42 only early 4a's were 18/40)
id use chrome top ring (hastings rings or something)
late model gze pump
stock cranks are bullet proof
you can stick with stock springs but depends on what lift your cams have.
gze 365 injectors are fine but if you want more boost go the 440cc 7mgte injectors
basicly what you want is a stock gze with a turbo and a microtech or adaptronic

yeah with only 10psi you might not even need to change to gze pistons

It could be cheaper if you just start with a GZE block and refresh it. I would run 7mgte injectors even if its only a bit of boost so you aren't close to maxing the injectors. A GOOD tune will go far aswell.

so if i get pistons and rods out of a aw11 with a gze in it should bolt up to my crank? the cams are 8.1mm lift. I put a wtb add up to buy a gze but with no luck so i think im going to build the motor i have to run the turbo
yeah with only 10psi you might not even need to change to gze pistons
yea the plans are to start with 10psi and go from there, maby in the future i will put a bigger turbo and higher psi.. and i would rather not have a rod snap on me and go thro the block on me as i wont to try and do it right the first time..

yes once i get it all running i will be getting a tune for sure, if i could get a gze i would go that way
thanks for your replys
has anyone eles built a turbo motor for a 4a as i would like to know what you did??

I did
AE101 GZE bottom end (stock), with bigport head.
Didn't show any signs of problems and it took 1 1/2 years of beating in my hands (with LOTS of boost), and then there were another two owners before me..

Much difference between Bigport GZE rods vs standard Bigport ones? I'm sure I read somewhere that they were the same and only the pistons were different (semi-forged ceramic top):S
If this is true, I'd assume a standard Bigport bottom end with new GZE pistons should work for a low boost setup?

bigport gze rods won't work with a NA bigport motor unless it's a 7 rib.
The only way you'll get gze pistons to work with 40mm crank is machine out the rod to take the bigger gudgeon or to get custom rods.
and getting a 'tune' means nothing. Getting a GOOD tune by reputable workshops who haven't blown motors recently and has the equipment to listen for knock will go a long way.

ok if u have an na motor do the turbo kit and run 5 psi of boost it will last all day everyday on the stock injectors if not get 7mgte for cheap
otherwise use the current motors components and get a gze long motor transfer everything over and run an easy 10 psi all day everyday
the stock 3 rib bigports are shit for turbo conversions as they don't have the 7 rib strength and oil squirts

5psi is poo, run it on 10-12 and she'll love it and it'll bew worth all the hassle

Rebuilt bigport, shaved head, 0.5mm TRD head gasket, 264 8.35mm cams, T28bb, 9PSI = 160rwkw.
Turbo it, and then build motor.
Intercooling on high comp motor is the key. I run a ARC JZX90 intercooler, 600x300x70, worth around $1500 and you can see every dollor that has gone into it.

yer not really looking for mass power but 160kw does sound awesome, but i dont really wana change gearbox / diffs hence why im only looking for torque fun and a little more power

i would be aiming for 130-140rwkw max. anymore than that and it wouldnt be enjoyable to drive on the street

do you know anywhere is brissy that does a really good tune then?

the ideal option would be get a gze but they are pretty hard to get so building a n/a motor for turbo is plan B .... mine is a 5 rib, can i just get a 7 rib and bolt my crank into it or do they have different cranks?
5psi is poo, run it on 10-12 and she'll love it and it'll bew worth all the hassle
i know i say i will run around the 10 area but i know i will drive it and be like maby just a bit more boost.. thats why i want to build a motor to run higher boost... so does any1 know where i can get aftermarket rods and pistons that would be perfect for this??

Only problem is that it won't bolt onto your crank. You need a 42mm crank that comes in 7 rib motors.
