Car - Ae71

Suspension - Ae86 struts with St185 KYB AGX's and Otomoto custom coilover kit.

Use - Street, some track and drift

Problem - Should i make a 40mm cut to the ae86 struts and run spacers or 60mm cut with no spacers. Please tell me your setup and how much you have cut out of your struts. How low can you go and how does it drive.

i run 40mm cut with 20mm spacer. you can get low enough lol.

it only JUST gets legal (100mm at rails)

anywhere below about halfway down the thread is superduper dumped.

only reason you'd go 60mm is if you really really wanted to get propper stroke out of the shocks.

this is in an 86 btw

^^ Same as above, I'm using TRD yellows and with a 40mm cut you can get the car more than low enough. This is in a ke70 btw.

Cool, sounds like 40mm cut with 20mm spacer is the way!!

i dont agree. the st185 stroke is longer, so you can cut more. all the coilovers i build with that insert have the strut cut to fit the insert (which is roughly 60mm)

having said that. for trd "short stroke" (ae92 size) inserts. 40mm with a 20mm spacer under the insert is what you want.

if you wanted them option of running these inserts or HTS 102r later, then you could just cut 40mm. tbh though, ive had trd yellow, blue, and hts 102r, and i like agx the best.

yeah only thing that makes the bottom of st185 longer than ae92 yellow is that gay little knob on the bottom do should prob ask people who have done agx only, will come in handy since i think i may change to st185s soon too

So a 60mm cut wont make the car stupidly low with KYB AGX ST185's.

I have st185 konis and they are just sitting on about a 2mm tall washer. At that height I can run ST185, sv21s, or old trd blue short strokes, which is what the coilovers were originally cut for.

If you make the shock fit perfect it will still be good.

Cheers for the parts dave (Mr AJPS). Ok, i think 60mm cut is the way as these have a longer stroke. I will keep you posted as to the ride height and driving quality from this modification.

on this topic.

building coilovers for an mx73.

using TRD ae92 shocks and 9kg springs.

so 40m shorter and 20mm spacer? just confirming as it is a larger car and could be different for some reason.

Cheers

i cut mine 59mm to fit the trd ae92 inserts, i run 450 pd springs,
IMO its too much, you dont relise this untill you do a dry run to set the bumpstop height and relise you need about 55mm bumpstops to get 185-60-14's to clear everything (this is with pumped guards and 3.5degree camber

im gonna make another set soon to replace with only 40mm cut out this time

ALOT of people dont even set there bump stops and because they run such hard spring rates they never hit them anyway and its not a problem, but i like to know no matter how hard i push my car, my tyres arn't gonna catch and pop on landing
