Can you change the steering box to a rack and pinion without changing the cross member?
Im of the opinion you cant but just want to clarify

You actualy need a custom crossmember. But from memory I think the AE71 crossmember will do the job good enough. I havn't done it.

But beware that there is lots of stuff to swap over to do the job right, including some cutting of the firewall.

You would need to swap over the whole steering colum and maybe even the pedals also, and modify the firewall a bit.

yes but u need to cut the rack mounts off a a or k series mount and reweld them on the t series mount

so if i got a full steering setup from a ke70 at the wreckers it would do with a few mods

yes

But be warned that you need the whole steering colum, and maybe the pedals also. And some cutting of the firewall, and maybe some drilling etc.

And check the clearance between the rack and the sump of the 3T-C.

You can do anything with these tools (and you will need them):
strong bench
strong metalwork bench vice
big hammer
hacksaw
welder
drills
files
cold chisel
tin snips

i have also done the conversion with a 3tc....

you do not need a custom crossmember at all...

what you will need..

KE70 Crossmember
KE70 Steering Coloumn
KE70 Steering Rack
T18 Rubber Engine Mounts
TA23 Steel Engine Mounts
T18 Steering Coloumn Shroud...where it bolts to the firewall...

bolt it all together...

no need for any other parts...
