the lifters are the same size but the shims in the top of lifters are different heights usually. you can use a micrometer to measure them

are the shims different from factory or is it due to wear and tear ?
my lifters and shims got mixed up so i am unsure of were they go

i believe they are different from the factory. if you have a thickness gauge just put the lifters and the cams in and measure the gap. it should be inlet 0.15-0.25mm and exhaust 0.2-0.3mm you'll have to swap the shims around till they are all within tollerences. its not very hard

its not that the shims are different from factory, its the fact that they are measured specifically for the specific valve and lifter.

its like the old engines with the adjustable rockers, you adjust the valve clearances with the little screw in thing and lock it off with the nut. in 4ages this is done via shims.

i do not belive it matters where the lifters go, but you will NEED to remeasure the shims for EACH valve. and ensure you have the correct valve clearance.
