View Full Version : 22RE issue.

I just put another 22RE into my RA65 celica so I can take my time with a 7AGE build.

I thought it was going to be easy and no issues, but I got this..

I unplug Number 1 lead and it runs the same.. It is getting an orange spark? Which I'm told it should be blue, but number two is the same.. 3 is a little closer to blue..

Compression is the following:
Cylinder 1 , 2 , 3 , 4
Dry, 200, 180, 185, 160
Wet, 210, 190, 190, 170

Any ideas?

Thanks,
marvis.

buy new plugs already.

did you check to see if the spark plug isnt fouled up? orange spark isnt a bad thing. the most importnat thing is that there is spark there. if your missing on that cylinder and the compression is ok, more than likely its a fouled or faulty plug

change plug from cyl 1 to cyl 4 then chuck cyl 4's plug in 1. that should tell you if it's the plug or not

I swapped the leads and plugs and they do the same thing.

Have you made sure you have reconnected all your earths on the head and block correctly?

Pretty sure :) Would that make just number 1 not work but? I can get the car running easy.

i have seen snapped valve springs do this. take the rocker cover off and turn the motor over by hand and make sure the valve is opening and that there is no movement in it when the lobe is starting to push it down.

it will miss with a broken spring but will still give good compression.

out of hundreds of missfires only seen this twice but worth a shot

is there fuel at number 1?

swap over the injectors? if the motor has been sitting for a while whe injectors can foul up no 1 may be stuck

Injectors would be my next point of inspection.

And for a backyarder like you Marv, best test method is to swap them over and see if the misfire follows.

If not:

Check resistance in all high tension leads, chances are they're older than you.
Change the spark plugs, stop being a tight arse. It's <$20

I have swapped injectors, I have also swapped plugs and leads.

But I'll do so again today :)

No dice?

Also i didn't say swap, i said test resistance.

Next step is to see if the all the injectors (or #1 in this case) are getting signal from the ECU. You'll need a noid light or a jerry rigged LED test light to do this.

I'll take one over :)

How do I test the resistance?

How do I test the resistance?

Get multimeter

Set to highest resistance setting (usually 20k Ohms on cheap-o multimeters)

one probe at each end of lead

You really shouldn't have more than 10K ohms per meter resistance.

Love you man!

I'll have to see if the old man has got one! (car is at my dads)

So I just went to check that the plug from the loom which goes into the injector has a pluse, and it's missing a little metal prong inside it... the other one is geting a pulse.

I got a cut loom here so I will see what i can patch together.

I hope this is it..

FIXED! YESSSSSSS

I just cut one off from my other loom and put it on.... It's making a strange noise now though?
