hi everyone,

car: ADM AE86

problem: engine replacement

engine: 4AC

i have blown the head gasket, so i picked a another 4ac to replace it for now...
twincam or 3sge late next year sometime (i'm broke!)

anyhow just wanted to confirm that in order to keep my air con gas, lines, compessor etc intact. that i can just unbolt it form the old block and re-bolt to the new block.

as i have never replaced a motor before, i just want to get a heads up that i am heading in the right direction.

any other tips would be appreciated.

if you are careful yes you will be able too, but make sure you dont put to much pressure on any of the lines or the condenser

and amte try CHEM I WELD for your BHG

chemiweld aye.....my dip stick shows a hetic milkshake though....and exhaust is blowing white smoke! i guess as a temporary fix might work....but it doesn't look good!

yea i am pretty sure repco sells it, jsut follow the instructions on the back

its good shit fixed a whole (a bit bigger then a pin hole) in a cylinder, once the engine did die (BOOM) and we stripped it we found a hole that we did fix with chem weld, which is quite good, as it handled the pressure for about 6 months

I don't know why you don't pull the head off first to inspect it and replace the head gasket if that's all it needs.

Don't machine nuttin', just off, clean, new gasket and back together. Leave the manifolds on the head and replace a single exhaust gasket or goo it. I did this to a 4k, six months and still going.

my skills and mech know how are average,
i don't doubt that i can't do it....just that the motor has 250,000+ kms on it...don't know if it would be worth it. motor i got has about 150,000+ kms.
might stand a better chance of lasting....but if that goes to, then i will take the head off.

the old motor has been pissing water out of the exhaust for about 5-6months
and isn't running the best...so just to be on the safe side for now i will swap it.

might give the chem-i-weld a go for a this week+ and see how long it lasts.

Yes your right about the AC just undo the compressor from the block and leave it in the engine bay

4A engines are quite easy to change. Remove the bonnet first, then anything connecting the motor to the body, hoses, wires, etc. Then bellhousing bolts and connect your lifting chain.
