shocks are blown.
when shocks are out of the car compress them, if they do not return to full extension by themselves then they are blown. good tip if your buying second hand

edit: at a slim chance they are not adjusted correctly, play with the settings and see if that helps.

i duno like where side of the adjustment screw is the pointer. like to adjust u have to rotate a flat head screw looking thing, with 1-8 around it, but i duno like which side of the flat head slit is the side that points to the number. setting

only thing to do is play with it and you'll find out...

sounds like your car is unbalanced due to having new shocks in the rear and stock worn out front. Plus the stock springs wouldn't help it as well.

bouncy as in going over bumps and then it seems to float out of it sorta bouncy? throw some more rebound damping in, the stock springs shouldn't be that bad, though another kg or 2 wouldn't hurt. i'lll ask the real guy when he gets home, and having shit shocks in the fornt won't make the rear bouncy, unless you're diagnosing the problem wrong, i'd offer to come for a drive and have a feel but you know how it is

LOL  get a licence you bum...oh wait :P
yeh if they are new then they are adjusted too stiff. stock springs are way soft so to accomodate the shocks need to be as well. is the car driving bumpy or bouncy. they are different.
if the car is bouncy, as in u push down on the rear hard and the car bounces a few times before it stops then the shocks have no rebound/are blown. if the car is bumpy while driving, as in it bumps off the road over dips and such then the shock is too stiff and not compressing.
doesnt matter if your not sure which way the screw head points, turn it all the way one way, take it for a drive and see what its like. then turn it all the way the opposite direction and see if thats any better...

if they were short storke shocks, with stock adm springs, could that be the cause of it?

put some stiffer springs in the front it might be the problem, my car had stiff springs in the back and stok ones in the front and it was pretty bouncy but it wasnt as bouncy as your saying your car is,

Try this. Take out the shocks. And try to compress them. If its easy, than theres most likely something wrong with the shocks. If they are nice and firm / stiff, than you at least know theres nothing wrong with the shocks.
I've had TRD blues in the past which were brand new and I remember them being quite stiff and hard to compress.

they are stiff and hard, easier on setting 1 haha obviously. so i think shocks r fine.
if they are short stroke, could it be that i have stock standard springs in?

no stock springs will not make the car bounce unless the shocks are blown (too soft), or if the shocks are too stiff, in which case you could take the springs out and the car would pretty much drive the same.
doesnt matter how hard, stiff the shock is COMPRESS, its the extension stroke which matters (for testing purpose). if it does not return to full extension smoothly (or at all) then the vavling is damaged/worn.
who had the shocks rebuilt? receipts?
