you wont find many cars under $5000 race only
race import approval $500
shipping tax and duty $2000-$3000
buyers fee $500-$1000
and r32 in japan $2000 for a ok one

Celsior? Aristo?

way too much work needed for drift

R32 4 door would be my choice

I've never even seen a Celsior drifting.

and an Aristo set-up for drifting would be pricey

Yeah unfortunately you have no chance at 5k (unless you get the car for free), basically all the shipping/broker/tax fees will eat up most of that :(

And as buddy said, anything under ~2k will be a little crap. A few more grand (7/8k) could probably get you most cars on that list, and you could get an S14 too (they don't go for much in japan, probably because they aren't eligible for compliance here in aus)

how much do u want to spend?...might be cheaper to build one then buy an import...

and depends what you want and what you like...

sr20det ae/ke, light...all the power you need...and if its track...dont have to worry about the major rust and defect =p

or save a bit more and get a decent nissan

I've used Craig and Ben from J-spec imports for all my cars, id highly recommend them.
Another good import broker is Kristian from Iron Chef imports.
Another car that you could consider buying is an early model WRX STI there a really good all rounder, there quite a favorite amongst amateur drifters as you can deactivate the front drivetrain, i saw one last week advertised for $7300 landed and complied.

thats 4200
call it 4500
you havent bought a car yet

stay the fuck clear of any subaru your heart will be broke

spend the money and get a sorted 32 or ceffy
money better spent cost you less in the long run
mind you 8k here will buy most 32s cefiros here if you set the cash on the bonnet

I bought my S1 S14 under the race/rally scheme through Japanese Motorsport... ended up paying around $7500 all up.

Came here with just over 100,000kms on it, JIC coils, GTR rear end, 2 way, seat, gauges, few adj sus arms, exhaust, fuel pump, FMIC, full kit, few other bits and pieces. Spent $1K on it when it got here having a few maintenence things done (Rear main, spigot bush and thrust bearing etc), plus a remap, sold it for over $13K.

$5K profit in the 2 months I owned it for. Id still have it if I didnt have the need to have a rego'd car at the time. And I probably could have parted it out for even more.

My current 86.... paid $8K for it, already spent over $6K on it. Still got a long way to go.

In short, a lot smarter way to go. Spend the extra $3K-$4K, and get something which will need little to no work, and spend the cash on track time and tyres.

My advice would be S14 or R32, readily available, lots of parts available new and through importers, and easy to drive.

10-20k?...

if its road regoed im guessing its going to be fairly stockish?...

why not buy 180sx for about 10k and spend 10k on it...will rip shit up on the track..

understandable if u favour the r34 overall...but track car means track only right?..

id get an fd, full built for around 15k,

then id buy an aus delivered fd and swap all over the sweet shit to it,
keep it registered,

put all the standard stuff into the built one and comply it and flog it off and keep a full built rx7 that cost 20k.

do you really want a track only vehicle?

I cant say ive ever owned one... but wouldnt the extra $2000~ or so outlay be worthwhile, so you can actaully drive the car more then 12-15 times a year?

So long its not covered in sponsorship stickers, you can take it up the hills or whenever you feel like; as apposed to waiting for a trackday thats convienent with your work/life etc.

Also, a registerable car is generally alot easier to sell too.

dont like the square wheelbase of fc,

id rock the fd till the motor blew then put a 3s in.

Touge Boy

Having owned 2 x FC's... (and 2 x S3's), I would honestly suggest a FD over an FC. Much superior chassis to drive.

FC's need a lot of work and money to setup CORRECTLY. If I was to buy another rotor, it would be a FD.

Although Id be buying some apeshit track car from japan and then getting a tow car. But thats just me.

i want something 4 door will be stockish but lot of internal work to keep it sleeper ish

xsoarerx
20th November 2009, 09:54 AM
if its a track car whats the point of it being sleeperish?

to import track only cars you need either a contact thats alittle dodgy or a cams level 3 licence (and i dont think its the licence you can just sign up for and get in the mail) - correct me if im wrong on that part tho.

if your going to get a track car, find a car with a full kit of goodies... if its going to be a track only car, thats what you want... TRACK ONLY, if your getting a nice 4 door car cuz its cheep but you cant drive it on the road and its going to be sleaperish whats the point?

save your money spend 3 or 4k more and get a car you can drive on the road and only drive it to the track.
