hey guys

the time has come to weld up the gaping hole in my car's firewall
the car is off the road and with chrissy coming up i cant see a better time to take some action

atm its running standard ecu and dizzy, which is sticking through the firewall.
im looking to upgrade to coil ignition/aftermarket ecu for many reasons, mainly to seal up the hole and get some extra pace outta the motor, which is a silvertop 20v btw.

basically im after answers to these questions:
what are my ecu options? (im aware of the main ones, wolf, haltech, microtech, adaptronic so on)
Which one is best/cost effective/have/do you use?
what are the approx costs of the options?

im in Melbourne so if u know of any tuners that can tune selected ecu's that would be sweet to know aswell, otherwise ill probly hit up Trent at status tuning.

i think thats all im after, if i think of any other questions ill edit them in as i think of them.

ill just add that ive got my eye on the wolf v500 which is 1350 bucks

Thanks a lot guys

for that cash everyone raves about adapts... in the end your running a 4a.. the ecu doesnt need to run, boost control, launch control, traction control, data logging - its fuel and ignition thats it

for me.. i would go either of the following + a good tuner and u will have good results:

Haltech, Adaptronic, Autronic, Motec - the last 2 being the more expensive of the 4.
then u have microtech, wolf etc

all u want it to do is direct fire ingition(multi coil), fuel, and later on boost if u need...
2 main things to ask yourself

1. is their local support for the product.
2. does it provide the functions you need with relative cost.

i think you should get number for status tuning, ask their exp with 4age's then ask him how he feels tuning (ecu name here) etc see what he says or if he steers u in another pathway, normally comes down to how good the guy knows the engines and around the ecu

i run an adaptronic and I love it. Mines the old version too so it hasn't got the features of the new one but its still awesome.

having said that, I would read up on the ecus in your price range and make a short list then find out who are the good tuners/installers in the area and find out what they are using. Cos in the long run it is very possible that your tuner will get MUCH better results than with the ecu he is experienced with rather than an unfamiliar ecu that may be technically better.

And as sundee said a 4age really doesn't take much managing!
Im running a smallport with quads and my ecu is running purely on TPS!
I have a map sensor hooked up but im not using it and i don't have an o2 sensor hooked up.
Originally I was just getting a straight tps tune just to get me on the road becuase my tuner said its hard to do a map tune on multiple throttle bodies. But it runs really well so i haven't bothered, especially since i have a 4agze waiting in the shed!

don't use the adaptronic! we only have one guy within 100km of us and he sounds like a bit of a knob head. Let us know what they are used to at Status.

If you need any help welding up that hole or doing mods to that engine then let us know.

I am running a ViPec, on a 16v with cams, quads and other mods...

Very cost effective ecu, $1500

Running waste spark, and tps only.

ViPec has all the features of an Autronicwithout the price tag.

I looked at an Adaptronic, but was reluctant to buy something off a salesman who had stuffed me about in the past. Backup service is one very important feature.
