CD Player wiring. Easy question.

Hey all.
Not really a technical question but I couldn't do this on my own.

Car - Ae71

Problem - I bought a CD player off a mate and the coloured wiring is different to the standard wiring. I usually just follow the cables to the speaker/terminal and then solder to the corresponding wire from the deck. This time, however, the wires are bunched and disappear behind the dash.

The standard radio is still installed and i was wondering if maybe the cables just run to the radio and not to their individual applications.

So my question.. Does the wiring for the audio gear run really high up in the dash or are the wires just cut long from my standard CD player?

Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I confused myself writing it. Lol

with a multimeter you could work it out pretty quick. However if you are still using stock speakers with the standard wiring you should probably redo the wiring because if its set up with a common negative it will blow the amp in the head unit

So I used a multimeter on all the wires. Aaaannndd.... Nothing. No readings.

I'll have to pull the dash off and see whats goin' down to pain-in-the-arse town.

if the staned one was working then its not cut !!! but i would re run all speaker wire and then find my power and memory wire and the neg and looking at the pic i say the reds powers and memory and black be the neg !!!! i had to wire in a cd player in a german car with all the wire up the shit !! aslo check the fuse in cd player and car

Fail, here's how you do it:

1. pull out your multimeter - you'll have one 12v power on one at accessories / on only. You will need a constant power, the standard stereo loom may not have this. You will also need 1 ground. read on, work out which wire is the odd one out and it will be this one. If you can't sus it out, check continuity to ground, one of them will have it.

2. get a 9v battery. Pair off the wires. They're usually much like the ones on your stereo loom, i.e. light green + dark green or in your case it should be:

Red + red w/trace
blue + blue w/trace
black + black w/trace

etc etc, you should have 4 if you have 4 speakers installed.

Next, get your 9v battery, put one of the paired wires on the positive, then as you are putting the other on the negative, one of the speakers will 'pop' or 'click'. This way you know what is going where.

Easy.

What I think will take less time is if I just rewire everything. I'll run new cables to all the speakers, rewire the battery and earth wires, and find the acc wire from under the steering column and run that to the corresponding wire on CD player.

I'll use sweet audio cable and solder the joins sweet for a nice, crisp sound.

Yeah, good cable is a good idea. I think i paid <$40 for enough to do a whole car from Jaycar.

He knows what the CD player wiring is and should go, however it's adapting it to the existing loom that is the problem.
