hey guys im thinking of getting a garrett GT2871r with .86 exh housing.
just wondering if anyone knows what sort of lag and top end power i can expect from it?
is it too big?
just opinions please.
my engine is a smallport 4agze

with a .86 rear it will be lagy as fk with a .64 it would be better but it will still be lagy!!!!

how laggy do u think eddie? i want the biggest possible turbo that i can while maintaining some response.

im guessing youre trying to dowse some 4age power figures?? ive seen some massive turbos on cars and they are realisticsly undriveable, this however will be laggy but very driveable, Lagy to me is not having boost inbetween corners while drifting and haing to clutch kick to get spool again so you probably would be happy enough with it!

coming from a kkr it will be a huge difference

Well Eddie the cars main purpose is drift. But since I'm upgrading the turbo I thought I may aswell put the best on I can, that way I won't have to change it again later.

The disco on my 4agte now is pretty laggy compared to my old gt28r getting 7psi around 4000rpm. I've driven a sr20 with gt28ir .86 and it was laggier then my car now. Ul be disapointed with response on a 4a. Try it in .64 rear

What rear housing is on ur 2860rs? Maybe I will just stick to a 2860rd then. I just wanted some idea on it before I spent 1500 on a new turbo only to find out it makes the car crap to drive

I've got .64 rear it's very drivable .86 would be like a 4ac untill 5000 and if u track it alot it will bog on corners lol

Ok so it looks like I will be getting a .64 disco then! How does the top end power feel? Does it keep pulling right to redline? My current turbo starts to die off toward the end.

yer easy as 15-18psi , my stock s14 turbo would do it also and my limiter is at 8000. Ive only taken it there once tho. Ill be getting it dyno tuned again with the new turbo ill post up the results.

id almost go for a t28 off an s15 will be the most responsive for drift, around the $1000 mark new 500 2nd hand will do 20psi no worries!!!

hey eddie, how did u run ur oil to the turbo? was it from the pressure sendeR? and did u have any restrictors in it?

yeh as said, .86 is way to big. what power do you want ?
130-230hp .48, 230-380hp .64, 380hp+ .86, just a rough guide. (for the 4ag @ the wheels)

i just tee off from the block for the oil and with ball bearing turbos i run up to a 2mm restrictor.

i run a .64 rear with .7 front with 56mm front wheel and i dont get full boost till 4800rpm and get around 3-5psi from 2000rpm WOOT!

Yeh sounds like a .64 gt2860rs is the go. What do u mean T off the block? From the pressure sender or somewhere else?

Yeah from the oil pressure sender. i dont like running a T straight from the block as ive seen a few snap into the block due to weight/vibrations of the T. I ran feed with a line before the T so there is no weight on the T.

Well mine is directly from pressure sender to turbo. No tee wat so ever. I am running my oil pressure sender from the oil filter adaptor. I think I'm gettin too much oil through the turbo tho

nar never had an issue with oil presure not a problem with good quality turbos, teed off the oil sender

Yeh I think your right Eddie kkr arnt the best turbos lol. Guess I will put up with the bit of oil burning till I buy a good Garrett unit.

you need to also get the right Trim turbine wheel to make full use of the power ban
.86 size rear housing is way to big!
u will need a .64 rear housing and mayb give GCG a call and talk to them about Trim options on the 2871r... changing combinations of rear turbine wheel, Trim and housing size will affect the power ban , so it needs to be matched correctly.
