Hey fellas,

Where the oil filter once went, do you need a gasket between the block and the metal piece that is the relocation kit?

Yes, and preferably a high temp seal as you won't be changing it regularly like the ones on the oil filter.

another quick question, sorry to high jack.

it it ok to put an oil cooler in line with this set up ?

as in engine, line to - oilfilter relocator, line to - oil cooler, line - back to engine?

Yeah it is Tim, that is how oil cooler kits go, your choice to filter pre or post cooler, except on thermostat control where the cooler has to sit post filter/relocator.

One other thing of note is that you pay for quality in oil coolers kits and oil is what keeps your motor going. The GREX type V kit for AE111 retailed at over 130000 yen new and that is thermostat on block.

i already have a kit that came with my motor but its not on the car. i priced up a pwr oil cooler and some speed flow fittings and line.... pretty pricey but i dont think i will be happy with a "kit" id rather run my own line and make it really neat

does having so many lines/extra volume put more load on the oil pump?

I would try www.ludowici.com.au, O rings are measure OD, thickness and usually imperial dimensions.

The addition of remote filter and or cooler will reduce system pressure. How much I don't know but considering that 4AG oil pumps run pressure reliefs, the overall system pressure may be the same with as without. Extra load would be negligable as the relief will pass excess oil/pressure, the increase in use upto that point at which it relieves cannot be considered additional load.

High quality oil cooler systems will result in minimul pressure loss and maximum flow of oil.

You should run the latest series of oil pump as you can for better pressure/flow. DO NOT RUN pressure relief style oil coolers on 20v! ie OE style

Tim, I have the Trust AE86 kit minus relocation but with thermostat on the sandwhich plate on my car (Old kit off of Jay's Green 86 coupe) and it's the bee's knees. Everything lines up perfect, and on wednesday I didnt see oil temps above 85 degrees. So, there is merit in running a proper kit.

That being said, some people are running the cheaper "Generic" kits (Like Robo I believe and his car cops an absolute flogging) and it seems to work well. i have heard stories of pressure drops and restrictions and leaks, but Ive never seen them myself so i cant comment.

technically no as far as i know that Grex oil coolers have a inbuilt thermostat that keeps oil pressures and temps to a minimum before opening the thermostat allowing oil to flow around

for instance with cheap made in china ones with no thermostat you would not get the benefits that a inbuild thermostat has.

not all of them do...there are a few (3-4) different sandwich plates...only one of them has thermostat built in

you should have got a new o-ring with the kit,

go to a bearing/ fastener type shop and buy an o-ring thats suitable for use with hot oil
