yeah, if you're planning on 4AGE go AE71. it's worth the extra coin.

if a ke70 can LEGITIMATELY pass a RWC i think it is instantly worth $1000. and i mean a proper RWC. all the boxes ticked, NO rust that is, no warn out bushes (ie they will have been replaced in their time).
and if the paint is in good condition id say thats worth 400 or so.
the other 600 is probably either the equivilent of takumi tax, or it is an exceptional example.
this one being low k's might be exceptional. though it looks a bit rough in those pics, few dings and scratches. it certainly isn't in mint condition.
though i don't think i could ever spend 2000 on a ke. if you look hard enough you might be able to find one in similar condition for 1/4 that price. others have..

i just got off the phone with the dude, seems to be all in check,
but he mentioned it was a 1.3lt which to me sent alarm bells ringing.
is he on crack or was there a 1.3?
and i guess eventually i would want a 4age conversion,
im in year 12 atm, so probably wont be for a while (min 8 months)
but how much extra would it be for that shit that comes in a ae71, ive been after one of the two for a while, and it seems to be an offer i cant refuse,
ohh and i think ill be able to squeeze the dollars out of him, not heaps convinced on 2k

on 2k
ke70s only came in 1.3L (4kc)
other variants of the K motor range from 1L up to 1.5? or something. in various old corollas (ke10 ke30 ke55 etc)
only ae71's and ae86's came with the 4ac which is 1.6L.
to convert a ke70 to ae71 specs, depending on if you are good at finding bargains, could range from $400 to $1000. t50 gearbox being the main cost.

t50 box being the main cost? no way lol. pedal boxes go for more than your average t50
as stupid as it sounds, its true. that is if you want to do it properly of course.
but with everything, if u look in the right places u will find good stuff cheap.
look in the wrong ones, and u will get reamed. but budget for 1k ontop of the initial purchase of a ke70 to get the parts needed to begin thinking about the conversion. (not including engine + ancillaries)

haha well my pedal box was $50, and my gbox was $300:P
and my tailshaft was 50, clutch crap 150 (slave, master, fittings, braided line), new clutch 250. whats that...$550. though pedal boxes are scoring huge prices these days. 250+.....
right back on topic.

2k is a lot of money for a ke70 in my opinion. but its upto you, your money. but it is a decent bit of dicking round to convert to 4a from 4k.
stock for stock there isnt that much difference from 4kc to 4ac. if you throw a few mods at them then you start to see a difference then.

hmmm yeah paying full asking price, you'll doubt yourself a little after, but you'll get over it.
once the cars feels yours, you wouldn't care if you paid 2.5, like i did for a T18 recently.
when speaking of cars under 3 grand, the purchase price pales in comparison to registration costs, insurance, running.,anyway... so.,.,
it's just whether you want it. If you're really struggling, jump on carsales.com and pull up every car in that price range. It might tempt you or level your will to get a RWD 'yota... IE make you smart but soulless,, but one year i did that and found a mint 87 accord with like 8 months rego for 1400, but today I regret wasting 2 years on what was admittedly a comfy awesome car...... that was a boring front wheel drive with no worthwhile upgrade potential. Stick to your plans.

If you have four grand I would buy a KE70/AE71 that has already been modified with a 4AGE.

Way to get skidding on the chaper side of life.
a Rule of thumb with second hand 80's Toyota is; buying price and ~$500

From the pics, the rust around the boot area does not look like surface, infact rust comming from the inside of the car to the outisde (typical of it). Pop the boot and check inside for any signs.
I'd probably offer 1500 or less though...

in the end its a mass produced 80's model corolla, their is atleast 2 on every street corner... pay for it what u want but paying 2 k is outragous. i just dont understand how you could think it was worth it.. considering what most of us want to do with them.
it just goes to show how cheap you can actually pick them up for.

if it has no rust and comes with a proper roady and rego then 2k is a fair price. no point buying a mint one though since it will most likely end up crashed or defected

umm no, find a granny with the exact same thing, offer her $500
yeah its a ke70 but take away the badge and the rep and you have an early 80's shopping trolley

so how much should an adm ae86 cost?
its easy to say you can get a mint ke for $500 but it doesn't actually happen

Takumi tax (or it's equivalent) always drives prices up on the more popular cars. For example, I paid $500 for my Scorpion, and that was with a month's rego and a spare car. The same sort of deal with a KE70 or an AE86 would probably cost in excess of $3k.
Being blasphemous, I've driven both an AE86 and a KE70, and I'd take my Scorp over both of them. Granted the sprinter was a bone stock ADM jobbie apart from a 16v but the Scorp drives a hundred times better.
I'd still use a KE70 or a Sprinter for drifting though. The Scorpion's an admirable chassis (it's basically a Starion with a live rear end), well balanced with a ton of low down grunt, but it's heavy, and you can feel it.

I just paid 1500 for one with over 5 months rego, when rego is up i could sell it for about 800, it isnt the cleanest but it does have very minimal rust and a strong motor.
