Just wondering I heard all the talk about a stronger block?
Which 4age 16v engine comes with the stronger block?
I have a 100kw 4age 16v out of a ae93

To the best of my knowledge, bigports have a 3 rib block, anything after has a 7 rib. I think all 4AGZEs have a 7 rib. And I think there's a late model bigport with a 7 rib.

to answer your question, a 16v 4age 100kw smallport does have 7 ribs.

Ok heroes, as far as blocks go, it goes like this:

3 Rib block - Smaller bearings, used in 4AC, Early 4AGE Bigport
7 Rib block - Larger bearings, Oil Squirters (although SOME may not have this, i think late bigport). All smallports are 7 rib, as well as late bigports (JDM AE92) 20V Block is also 7 rib with oil squirters but has some minor differences.

AE86 4age bigport - 3rib
AE82 4age bigport(bluetop) - 3rib
AW11 4age bigport(bluetop) - 3rib
AE82 4age bigport(red/blacktop) - 3/7rib>> no squirters (very rare for 7rib but do exist)
AW11 4age bigport(red/blacktop) - 3/7rib>> no squirters
AE92 4age bigport(red/blacktop) - 7rib>> no squirters
AW11 4agze bigport - 7rib>> no squirters
AE92 4agze bigport - 7rib>> no squirters
AE92/3 4age smallport (redtop)- 7rib>> with squirters
AE92 4agze smallport - 7rib with squirters
AE101 4age 20v (silvertop) - 7rib with squirters
AE101 4agze smallport - 7rib with squirters and different block cast and hence different knock sensor used
AE111 4age 20v (blacktop) - 7rib with squirters

**To find 7rib blocks look for motors built post march 88** Not saying that every motor made past that date was 7rib, but epc p/n change over occurs at that date.

(there are a couple of others, not listed for availability purposes)

Thanks for all your help.

I getting my 4age built and i wanted to start with the strongest base possible.
(Engine builder wanted some info)

nothing personal but I seriously doubt your build would stress the weaker 3 rib. However the 7 rib crank and rods suit a common 20mm gudgen pin. So yeah thats what you want.

Even so... still better over builded.

sam knows his stuff, also alot of 4ages put through previous motorsport were 3rib and they were taking on 180hp+ and still using factory spec bottem end pieces just lightening the crank
