View Full Version : Removing MKII centres

Just got some MKII's and the paint on the centres is chipped and all, wanna paint them good. They look pretty much the same as these besides condition

so can i remove the centres to paint them, or will i have to just leave them in, I had a suss on the net about this couldnt find anything so if theres another thread about this just flow us the link, thankyou.

no, they are welded into the inner/outers.

must leave them in and mask/grease the outsides to avoid overspray.

then y have bolts on the center ?

surely thats not all of them?

yes. really.
i am not wrong.
essentially the bolts are to look pretty.

the VERY VERY earliest production models might not be welded. but i am yet to see an mk1/2/3 that has not been welded shut from factory.

You'll find that most 3 piece wheels sold for the street are welded up, bolts are purely decorative.
I guess that's one reason why the flippable ones go for quite a bit more.

the bolts are to help secure the centre from spinning if the silicon/weld is weak, and its also a visual look, but yes only takes about 30 minutes to mask up with news paper to spray mk2's pretty basic and straight forward
