door mirror convertion

can u put slanty fount/ ae71 door mirrors on my 81 flat frount drivers door or do i need a new door
easy question i know but figure i thought id ask rather than buy 1 and find out it slightly different

just get a whole door, or try get another ke70 door mirror. the mirror off an ae71 is one built into the window sil, and a ke70 one is screwed onto the door. fairly sure it wouldnt work and im 90% sure that the glass parts wouldnt be the same either.

Why? AE71 ones are ugly.

You need to change the glass etc, So just swap doors.

Short answer, Yes they can be changed.

You don't need a new door. If you do plan on changing to the late style mirrors you will need to get the glass (as it is shorter to accomodate the mirror), the front rail that the glass slides in, the rubber thingy inside the rail and all the way around the glass and the mirrors.

It may be cheaper buying a pair of doors for all those parts to make it cheaper than buying individual parts at the wreckers. Ask forum members for damaged doors may be the best bet as there's usually someone wrecking a KE. I just threw out an AE71 drivers door, but kept the mirror as a spare or to sell.

^^^^ i can attest to this, thats how i did it, and if you wanna get really fancy u can use corona mirrors and have internal adjustment on both sides

AE71 csx mirrors have the internal remote levers. If you want to get really fancy you can convert to Corona ELECTRIC mirrors ;)

1 more question if i put a new drivers mirror will i hav 2 get 2 on either side? just if i need 2 go through regancy

If it didn't have a left originally I don't think it is necessary. Put one on anyway, they look shit with only one mirror.
