Those "DUKE" vids are pretty good hey. Ive got some isle of man tt one about bikes and a rally crashorama one. Its pretty funny watching numerous notchback 86s and old mk1 eskys flipping onto their lid.
I saw "too fast to race" on austar once. Some of those cars were brutal. Like brutal as in 'cant see shit so ill stop navigating cos you can see the road anyway fast'

Th Group B era was stupid, glad it was banned. You could see the stress in the drivers, The cars were quicker that the human brain was one quote I remember hearing. Watching legends dying in fireballs aint exactly good either

This may be true BUT it produced Homologation vehicles, and a factory racer is awesome!
With out these types of race classes we wouldn't have;
RS500 Sierra
E30 M3
VL Walkinshaw commodore
RS200
037
Audi Quattro's
Metro 6R4
Opel Manta 400
Pug 205 rear engine
Lancia S4
Renault R5
Nissan 240RS
Merc Cosworth's
HR31 GTS-R
R32 GTR Nismo 380
RS1600, RS1800 Eskies
I could go on and on with some of these pieces of motoring history that would not of occcured if it were not for class racing. I own a Honda Homologation World Superbike racer (RC45) 1 of 232 made, when I ride it, it feels 'special' only the feeling a machine designed to run in the rarified air of top eschelon racing can feel. It's made with exotic metals that make me hard, titanium rods, magnesium alloy block, billet components etc etc
It allows an average person to own a factory designed race car. With 'special' bits, This was one thing I loved about the old Group A rules, homologation car and homologated bits, I have the homologation papers for many cars, the escort homolgation papers are like a thick book so many parts were 'legalised'
I  Homologation Race Cars/Bikes

I think if some restrictive rules were relaxed today, then cars as epic Group B, Group C, Group 5, and the glory days of F1 could be raced today with much more effective saftey measures in place.
Pretty soon we'll see hybrid/electric cars and alternative fueled engines racing, with efficiency (more power form less fuel) being as important as winning. As good as that technology might be, It will never be like the raw, unadultered, even brutal power of these 80's supercars.

Best line from Too fast to race:
Cue plum British narrator voice, "to keep those 600hp driving through all four wheels he would slide around the course with the tail hanging way out"*

* Sorry it's been years, I know it's not a 100% correct quote, but the end still cracks me up.

I liked this line from another 80's rally vid. It was early Ari Vatenen rolled his car on stage and Timo Salonen asks:
"Ari why is car so bad looking?"
"I cut the corner too much and hit the (points to tree) stump. I learn this from you!"
They both laugh and pat each other on the back.
I love the commeradery these guys had, these days drivers hardly seem to get along which each other, even guys on the same team. Although the Solberg brothers are pretty funny kents.
(Hen you'll probably agree living up here, the scando accent when taking english is pretty funny especially the Fins)
