hey guys. just got a simple question and like to see what other peoples answers are. Anyways i lowered my 86 yesteday and its sits to the ground, so i''ve decieded to raise the car up today but having trouble jacking the car off the ground as the car sits so low. whats the best way to jack up the car? How do you jack up your car? drive on bricks?

planks of wood worked for me, otherwise even if you raise you car it's a good idea to invest in a low profile jack

Go a low jack from trade tools... 65mm. WIN.

Easiest way to do it is to put a brick in front of one wheel and drive up onto it. Easy few cm clearance. :)

yeah driving up on wood, bricks, dirt mounds, jacking it up from one side then under the x member, burrowing out the gravel till its deep enough to go under.

Yep, for the front you can be dodgy and use RAD support (or tow hooks maybe), rear you can use tow hooks.

Hi All

I have some lowdown ramps to assist coming in my container.

Once you have driven up on them can use the jack like normal.

Will get pics up shortly

I have a set of my own at home already and very useful

cheers

get a low profile "racing" jack, had no issus, can jack anywhere NP. or you could make some ramp platforms out of some old sleepers or the sort

i sometimes just use my sizzor jack to get the car up a few cm (via jacking seem), then chuck the hyd jack under.

its usually only a problem on the front though us Ke's have plenty of room at the back to get the jack under the diff.

i made a custom castor bar brace on my s13 that i jack the car up from. stiffened the front end too (looks like the nismo power brace, except green and better!).

on my rolla because it was much lighter i would jack up by the sway bar :P

But seriously folks, low profile jack and find some 2"x4"s will do you. I got some Astro Products ramps for this purpose.

i did the same/similiar, welded a 1" 4mm thick bar from caster mount to other caster mount, then welded all the seams on the caster mounts, i now jack from the caster mount, usally if you take the fitting bit off a hydro jack then it slides under... otherwise just drive on a block of 1.5" wood, or just use ramps if you don't need to take wheels off

ties the front end togeather quite nicely IMO

jack up on tow hooks, block of wood under front wheels
, jack up from crossmember, the rear of mine is sometimes a pain, due to having a vertex rear bar and a 31 diff, once the fronts up, there rears a pain

^^^ same, once my front is in the air airs are a tough one, plus i've got to lower my rears too makes it worse. you can get under the diffand lower link bracket and i NEVER jack from my seals...

Boost+ k and resol can u post some pics of ur work?

This is what i have to do and its so annoying! would much rather some ramps

also these might be a good idea

Winning post.

I drive up on an old piece of rolled up carpet. For some reason my car won't drive up onto bricks, Just don't drive up too far onto the carpet on the front left. The exhaust is right there!

Why is everyone against jacking from the FACTORY jacking points.??

resol
2nd February 2010, 08:56 PM
rice86; the weld are big because i had to fill the gap between the cross bar and the castor brackets. theres actually three welds there. one on each surface and one joining them.

mr-00-ng; if the car has a flat i use stock scissor jack on the sills IN THE CORRECT LOACTION SO I DONT DAMAGE THE BODY. how often do you see jacking marks just next to it and like halfway along, some people need to learn how to change tyres...

becuase you cant use a factory position on a modified car!!! you must use a modified position!!!

im not sure hey...i know ive screwed up one side of my jacking seam with my flat hydraulic jack... also the jacking points are on the sides of the car, so you can only jack 1 side at a time, kinda annoying for putting jack stands under.

you can also just jack off the chassis rails, but again this can only be done from the side and thus a bit difficult to get the whole car in the air for jack stands. also gota be careful you can squash your chassis rails quite easily....

air jacks perhaps?

If you can still jack your car normally, it isn't low enough :DD

On front especially with lip/kit, trolley-jack can't get under to reach cross member from front. Once you jack front, then it's harder to get under diff too to get it up on all fours. (I've even used 2 scissor jacks, one each side on the sills, to get enough clearance for trolley jack under)
As mentioned to lift one corner at a time, the tow hooks (mounted to both left and right, front and rear chassis rails can he used too, but not ideal.
