it doesnt really matter adm or jdm they will both work fine.
the question is do you want drums or discs. that is really the only thing that will make a difference in your decision

"best diff" ? it's a vauge question and theres a whole of info on the forum on what various people run. To answer something like that we need to know what you do to the car, what you want out of it, what it will be subjected to and so on.

I think the only reason people upgrade to T, F series and others is so they can run an LSD. Whats wrong with your S series currently?

if you want an open diff then im asuming you just going to drive it at granny speeds...keep it S to save you money...
question...does it currently have a LSD/locker in it?...

s series is a stronger diff because it has 4 pinion gears..
half an inch smaller crownwheel i have not found to be any weaker than a t series,
same size axels as t series

sorry guys i should add more info.
Im currently running a Locked T series diff 4.3 . and i want to change to a open diff. is it possible i could just grind the weld off? ( lol im newb ) or would there be people who would swap their open t, s series for a locked one? im running a 4age bigport with a jdm box. Im gunna be driving it like a granny with the occasional squirt but by no means thrashing it.
edit: hmm discs would be nice

ive got a guy who will swap his open "s" series. but its 3.9 gear ratio i believe. this means that my car will rev its tits off right? or the other way around.

otherway round... its a highway gear IE looooooonnnnnngg. with a decent enough run up you'll probably crack 200km/h though..

can i suggest you buy or look into a lsd 1.5 way perhaps. why would you go back wards ? it will handle better then the locker , more friendly to park and drive at low speed and if you do go on a spirited drive and the arse kicks out you at lest have some control . single spinning out of nowhere can be dangerous .
a 3.9 or 4.3 (standard JDM) will be fine for everyday driving since this is what stock adm and jdm diff run .

just find someone who will swap your S series for an open one.
i think you can even just change the centre for a non locked one. that way you keep your entire diff, just change the center.
surely someone has an S series sitting behind their shed.
edit: sorry didnt read properly. yes do as stated below, find yourself a T series centre, or swap the whole diff with one of these blokes.

swap someone for a open t-series diff center. since you have locked t-series it will bolt in and then save up for a proper lsd. T and S series center are not interchangeable and require you swaping the complete diff (center and housing)
just want to put it out there that im currently running a locked t-series and hate it . yeah good when im drifting on the track.. but for street/ daily duties sucks balls and cant wait till have money to re-build my trd 2way.

s-series diff is worth 0-$50
t-series is worth $250-350
s-series seem to always be noisey. id keep the t-series and put a open centre in.

ive got an open T series pinion carrier with 4.11's that i'll swap for your locker + 4.3's pinion carrier
simplest installation as you only have to undo 10 bolts to pull yours off and vice versa.
heres a pic...

Filip.
edit* also do you know if your centre is kouki or zenki? mine is zenki.
also is your car ADM or JDM (JDM being imported)

id take that option :)
.02 difference in final ratio wont be that huge of a gearing change
