Just got this email from a friend, are you able to assist?:
As per discussion with corolla wiring, We are after wiring set up for 4AGE twin cam 16 valve ae 82 engine.
We have the original dizzy, coil and igniter, Do you know any one who has wired this up before, as we are running twin dellortos and don't require ECU, EFI etc etc. just want spark!!!
Any help is much appreciated!
Justin.

Couple of options. A brand new distributor made with mechanical advance to suit, Performance Ignition in Vic make these I highly recommend them, all they require is the orginal gear off the end of the distributor.
Another setup i've seen is the Hyperpak ignition
this setup which retains the original distrubutor.

The hyperpak looks like a great way to do it and it gives you an advance curve,
But if your after a cheap way just to get it running you can use a bosch module i think its a BIM-024. It comes with wiring diagram and costs about $50 BUT be carefull you will have no ignition advance so you need to try and find a point where you can advance the timing without causing it to knock under load at lower revs but have enough advance to make power up high.
Again not ideal by any means but ive seen it work fine on a couple of engines so thought id suggest it.

i see where this is going.
Nick - can i use a bim024 and msd cdi setup or am i looking at it square eyed?

From the msd cdi's ive seen there is no need for the bosch module as you can wire them directly to the pickup (violet and green wires) or to points or an internal amplifier module if the dizzy has one (white wire). Unfortunately cdi alone wont give an advance curve msd also make timing control modules for locked dizzys to work with the cdi to enable you to program advance according to engine rpm.

interesting, atleast buying a cdi unit give the motor some chance of life even it it has no advance.
Ill have a think on it when im sober.

Yeah big cdi spark is never a bad thing unless you accidently touch a plug lead
