So... to loosen it, is it anti-clockwise (normal) or clockwise (reverse)?
Been trying lefty-loosy and can't seem to crack the fucker. :right: Had a search but could only find WAYS to loosen it, not which direction to go.
Any help appreciated!
Cheers:thumbup:

same as normal mate, left loosy righty tighty
youll prolly need a rattle gun to get it off.
unless you put the car in gear and get someone to stomp on the brakes, though this is not advisable as it
orrr you can pull out your starter motor and jam a spanner into the flywheel teeth to stop it from rotating.
if its not come off recently it will be damn tight.
and you will prolly need a harmonic balancer puller to get the pulley off (30$ from poopercheap)

its a normal right hand thread, so anti-clickwise to undo

Ahh thanks for the fast response. Only have a cordless rattle gun, and that doesn't have enough grunt to crack it unfortunately.
Also, engine is on a stand so that eliminates the 'Easiest' ways to get it loose  Will just keep working at it, but atleast now I know for sure that I am trying in the right direction haha!

get someone to put a screwdriver against the flywheel teeth from the locating pin, assuming it still has the flywheel on it

yer other option is to use a breaker bar with about a 10foot pole slid over the end of it (combined with a spanner in your flywheel), that worked on my car. just whatever you do dont use a ratchet wrench cuase you may destroy the ratchet mechanism.

No flywheel lol!
It's all god got it off. Had a 'Hand Impact Wrench' and a 6lb hammer. Took a few hits to crack it, then just rattle gun'd it off. Just had to make sure I was doing it the right way.
Thanks for the help

Ok heres what i did...if you still have your sump on, get a bit of 4x2 timber (i think? anything thats a little bit too big to fit between your sump and harmonic balancer), hammer the piece of wood in there so it jams the fuckers together, then you should be able to undo it...its how i got mine off my 7a.

get a 1/2" bar sit against a chassy rail and just turn the ignition(like on and off straight away) will undo every time (make sure you have the bar on the right side or it will swing around)

it was on an engine stand.
almost all the methods suggested in this thread won't work with it on the stand lol!
'work fellas! :P
when i did mine i gave up and took it in to work with epic truck rattle gun :)

Remove sump
Place block of wood in between crank and block to stop it moving without damaging components
get breaker bar and socket
??????
Profit
Get prybar
Get friend to hold prybar between flywheel teeth and against one of the shanks on the engine stand head
Get breaker bar and socket
??????
Profit
Hire trailer / borrow ute
Put said engine on said stand in the ute
Drive to a mechanic with a proper rattlegun, hand 6pack
?????
Profit.
Any of these will work*
*may not result in 'profit'.

The wood method works when its on an engine stand.... And a truck rattle gun? Should easily come undone with just a regular 1/2 inch gun and decent compressor.
