Car - KE70

Motor - 4AGTE

Use - Driving

Problem - Alternator Positioning

Occurs/Started when - N/A

Personal Situation - N/A

Hey guys, will try and keep this one short.

Basically in the process of assembling my 4AGTE and am up to working out how/where the alternator mounts!

Now I know that there are FWD and RWD brackets, however, I have seen the alternator mounted on both passenger and drivers sides, so what I need to to know is assuming my bracket is a FWD one, can I make it work fine to suit either passenger or drivers side mounting? Or is it a pointless exercise and I would be better off making my own mount? I would love to be able to have it mounted in a car to be able to work on it and check all clearances with the alternator position, but that won't be happening for a while yet, so at the moment would love if someone could point me in the right direction.

Here is a couple of reference pics to maybe help with solutions:

Rear of water pump (Guessing that affects alternator positioning?)

Alternator bracket in question (FWD I think)

Any help would be great!

That looks like the supercharger bracket to me. Alternator bracket has no tensioner on a fwd (except for a 20v).

The proper fwd alternator bracket has a slider bracket mounted to the top water outlet, and a cast lower pivot bracket similar to what you have shown. I have both if you're interested

yes that is a supercharger bracket. The only exhaust mount alternator brackets that are not custom are off the ZE engines, which seem to be next to impossible to source.

Ah righto then. Was under the assumption that it was a FWD bracket as it all came with my parts engine etc.

So basically to mount my alternator, I will be looking at a custom job, or source a RWD bracket yeah? Both of which mount under the intake then?

A fwd bracket will mount on the intake side. As Nikkojoe said, it has a slider mounted to the top water outlet and a pivot bracket below that.

providing your using an external thermostat it's as above where the hoses will fit around the FWD mount without an issue

Alright that's everything I needed to know. Thanks heaps guys for the fast responses, appreciate it. I have my water setup with external thermostat so yeah should be sweet then once I track down an alternator bracket.

Anyone need a supercharger bracket? :)

Another point to consider is when making up your water kit. Try and get the water line that suits the fwd water outlet that you use to get the tensioner mounted, the gze one has its mounting tab on the oposite side. I know my description is not very clear, but the water line i mean is the smaller of the 2 that run from the front to the back of the engine.
