Hey guys,

Small bit of help needed because this is starting to do my head in.

I need the correct part number for the distributor cap for my JDM 16V, MAP-Sensored Bigport 4AGE motor because i've been through like 2 caps already and neither of them fit. And spending $50 each, i want to get it correct for once. I think it's from a real early Hachi, like 1985 or so?

These photos are of the two caps i've already tried, because the motor was originally out of a AW11 MR2, thus I thought it would require the MR2 distributor cap. Or so I thought. Neither of them line up with the bolt holes.

I think the one I need is the one where all the points come out of the top of the cap, rather than these ones from the photos which come off at a 90degree angle from the cap, if that makes sense. I've also been lead to believe that the dizzy might be the earliest version of the JDM design?

I think i'd be correct in assuming that these types of caps were the ones on the earliest JDM RWD 4AGE 86's. Any help / Advice would be great! Cheers!

- Alex.

hay mate had the same problem with the small port 4age, all the regular caps were different and the guy at burson litteraly just looked at the pictures in the bosche booklet and was like bet u its this one, he was right. very strange that the mr2 cap didn't work. I don't know how important it is for you to get toyota but you could always try that, matching it by eye with the old one at somewhere like burson, may not help you if its a jdm rwd though.

Update:

I have now uncovered that I need the P/N for the cap off the JDM Hachi, real early, like 1985 or so. Basically to suit a MAP-sensored, early Bigport, not the AFM model.

Hey mate. Unfortunately I don't have an old cap i can refer to, the previous owner took her to the track and melted it.

Hey mate, cheers for the reply.

Does this one have all the points sticking straight out the top, rather than out at an angle like the two ones in my pictures?

Look at this page (http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1983_TOYOTA_COROLLA+LEVIN_AE86-ECMQF_1902.html), it lists all the toyota part numbers for the distributor and yes it is the type where the leads are straight out top.

Cheers
