hi all,

i was watching on ebay a 4age trade in at $400.

no wiring loom or ecu

ive found an ecu for about $50 and a loom for about $100

so lets say $600-$650 for a setup.

is this worth it? its also all secondhand obviously and the loom is from the UK...

it just seems a little cheap when 4age's seem to go for a bit more

Get in touch with the seller about engine condition. If he claims it as good then make sure if you purchase it, make sure you get him to make a reciept which states it's sold as a good condition engine, not sold 'as is'.

This is also a very good idea if it's in the car still.

have i not taught you anything?

all you need is a battery, a starter and some jumper cables and you can comp test and engine on the ground

bigport engines are not uncommon at self serve wreckers, how about one of those?

prices ive come across in the past few years, from private to wreckers sellers

$200-$400 private, said engine works..most of them suited rebuilds
$500-$1000 wreckers, motor works with warranty, *i got mine for $550 from import wrecker, BP 4age, was a really good motor honestly, but i think i was lucky*
$500-$1000, forum sellers, some are well worth it and some are a gamble

my 2cents....get a 20V, they are cheaper then 16V amazingly

just remember that to 99.5% of the population a 4age is just an engine out of an old corolla.

wreckers to tend to charge a bit for them as they know they are getting rare to find in good condition.

but if your lucky you will find someone selling a "1992 toyota corolla engine" on ebay, and it may be a 4age that you can get for cheap;)

i got my 4age block and head for 120$.

comp tested it and started it up on a spare tyre i had. made an "exhaust" out of a peice of PVC pipe that helped us not be gased out inside the garage.

that day was quite possibly the most fun i have had with playing with cars. having an engine running in your garage on an old tyre, while you and your mate are trying to hold it still, oh it was so much fun.
