Do your brake lights work?
Does it have a single filament globe where there's supposed to be a twin?

I have had this problem before in a mazda i had for a while. It turned out to be a short in the tail lights which was transfering the power from the brake lights to the parkers. Reckon that would be a good place to start from

brake lights work fine. its really bugging me i've checked all the wiring and cant seem to find anything out of the ordinary. i will check all the globes in the morning to see if there are any double fillaments in there. if that fails i've got an auto sparky in my street and i'll pick his brain when he gets back from holidays. thanks for the help so far.

Check the earth in the boot, make sure the contact is clean. If not, this is super basic auto electrical, good opportunity to give it a go!

You sure the brake lights are working and its not just the parkers turning on when you hit the brakes? Check it by turning on the parkers and then hitting the brake and see if the brake lights come on then. There could also be a short in the loom anywhere from the front to the back of the car or if your car has or has had a towbar fitted it could be in the towbar wiring too
Like Javal said this is fairly basic auto sparky work just trace the wires from the tail lights forward and you should find the problem
