Car - AE86
motor - 20v silvertop
use - daily
problem - hesitates at 3500 rpm
occurs/started when - occasionally when going full throttle
personal situation - addicted to redtube.com
So basically my silvertop only hesitates at 3500 rpm, it dosnt do it all the time just every now and then when under load at full throttle. some times its a small hesiation and other times if feals like there is a limiter set at 3500 or the brakes are being pressed.
I have an AFM installed and the fuel ratio dosn't really change, so im not sure its an issue with fuel or ignition.
anyone got some ideas

I have the same thing, what ECU are you using?

adaptronic e420c
also using 2nz coilpacks

maybe its the map sensor?

well thats a pretty proven combination. OK for me it's a noise issue in the electrics causing the ECU to loose sinc with the crank angle sensor. I would think your AFR gauge would pick up something it was fuel related, besides I doubt fuel to cause something so sudden.

so noise in the electrical system, so would this include amplifier wiring runing close to the adaptronic loom? or something different?

If the actual motor, CAS and coils are good, I think I could find something by looking at the Adaptronic software part. If the fuel and spark tables look sound and your problem is with fast throttle changes, then look at your Throttle Pump settings. I would be interested to look at the ecu file.

interesting point Jonny, I guess a good way to know if it is that is that it would be predictable and able to be replicated with the same situations.

I have a good feeling I can fix this. I'm waiting for the file, and will probably send it back to him fixed, with more power.

cheers for the help guys,
Jonny i will send you the ecu file tomorrow when i have downloaded it, sam would you like a copy for your viewing pleaseure?

thanks but I wouldn't have a clue what I am looking at hahaha, people give me way more credit than I deserve on here.
Well anyway keep us updated

If that doesnt work, maybe run a datalog of the event occurring and give me a look. Might be able to see a prob from that.

So after getting a chance to look at my orginal fuel and ignition maps, and having some maps that jonny made up for me. It was obvious that there were some timing issues. More specifically at the 3750 rpm mark at 66% throttle the timming was set at 0 degrees. and at a couple of other spots the same issue. so it was needless to say that i was a little anoyed with the bloke that i paid to tune the thing.
Jonny hooked me up with a modified map that performed heaps better but still has some more potential to bring out. So big thanks to jonny for the help and the maps!

It's usually something dumb like that. Who "tuned" it?

Would prefer not to say until i speak to them :)

The maps had tuned points up to 7750rpm and nothing beyond.
There were some holes in the ignition map, but I don't think that caused your problem.
The transient throttle settings are probably still the main thing to fiddle with to stop the hesitation. The quad throttles needs heaps of fuel once they open quickly.
