Ok, so i finally fixed my lock problem was a bent steering knuckle,
now that i took my car for a drive today i have two problems.

1. a knocking noise in the drivers side (where the steering arm was bent)
could a balljoint that was in a retarded position create such noise ?

2. when i hit full lock, and then steer back for about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn the steering it really hard,
it can happen from either side when i first felt this it was turning left hand down but when
i stopped at the servo was right hand down.

put it on full lock when it's grounded and make sure it isb't binding and while you're under there jack it up and have a partner with you steering fore you and find where the sound is coming from, could be as simple as forgetting to do up a bolt

after you changed the knuckle did you get a wheel alignment. my guess is your toe is out on that side and causing weird steering

knock noise could be anything. something youd have to hear in person

ok fixed knocking issue, still wondering about the 2nd one though,
does it sound like it could be something binding in the rack ? or could a bent rack end do this and make it hard in only a certain spot ?

If you had a bent steering knuckle you obviously hit something pretty hard & as you said i would suspect a bent rack too ..

Jack up the front of the vehicle so the wheels are off the ground & slowly turn it from lock to lock & feel for the binding, then to isolate the steering rack you will need to take off the tie rod ends & again turn the steering from lock to lock, if its still binding its obviously the rack, if it feels good then turn each front wheel at a time through its lock arc to isolate which wheel / ball joint etc is at fault ..

I would be doing it pretty soon as a bent rack is not a good / safe thing to drive on ...
