View Full Version : ignition key barrel, makes starter motor keeps going

is there a easy fix for this prob? can the switch part at the back of the key barrel be replaced? or maybe another toyota has the same switch any help would be good

Sounds like the barrel is worn, can you remove the key when its running ?
You can get new barrels from toyota

no u cant remoe key the key just starts in the start postion
any one know how much anew barrel worth

Does the key get stuck in the crank position ? or does it flick back to the normal run position ?
Are you sure it is the ignition switch at fault ? .. The only way to really tell is next time it sticks, make sure that the key is still not in the crank position & if its still cranking even turn off the key, if it keeps cranking its most possibly the starter solonoid at fault as sometimes they can stick & will cause the car to keep cranking ...

mine does the same.
After its started i just turn the key back to stop the starter from running.
Unless your is getting stuck and cant be moved?

it gets stuck in the crank postion the old man pulled it apart and said it the ignition switch is stuffed can you use on out of another toyota??

well either than or you disconnect the wire and run a start switch, this is what I am going to do.

all sorted now put new switch in and had to run a relay to get more power to the starter motor
