No way would I be putting an ECU in the engine bay to get wet and full of dust and dirt...
Inside the kick panels or around the glovebox under the dash

My ecu is bolted to the two threaded stems sticking out from the firewall up behind the glove box

Sitting on top of and ziptied to the top of pipe linking fan and heaterboxes. or maybe it was ziptied to the underside of the dash. I don't remember.
It sat on the footwell floor for 2 years. Didn't bother it.

Have a look in the engine bay of any current model Falcon/Commodore and i think toyota is getting into it too.
I even spray them down a bit when i wash under the bonnet lol

ECU's on some modern day cars if fitted in the engine bay are designed & well sealed for that purpose, if your ECU is all water proofed including special terminals etc, it would be fine, but i would doubt any after market computer's would have such luxuries & not worth taking the risk either .. As has been mentioned above the glove box seems the best option ..

This.
ECU is a computer, they don't like heat.
