has happened with wagons and hatch back (sorta comon for 180s nto be changed to ute spec) not so much sedans.
is this a complete half arsed lets get pissed and chop the arse out then jump it or a semi realistic lets actually do it with a little effort thing? not hating just asking?
svenmate
10th August 2010, 09:31 AM
Yeah, I know, Aaron. :)
Will be done with effort. Want it to look good and actually drive good.

10th August 2010, 10:03 AM
easiest way will be to get tape like the skyline did, get a marker pen and draw out the line and start cutting, then make up plates and weld them over the inner and outter panel to fill the gap in, cut a boot lid up to make the back of the tray, grind the welds and fill with bog. wen doin a ute conversion u cant really plan wat to do as u dont know wat it will look like once its cut, cause theres not just the inner and outta panels, there is all sorts of reonforcments in between the to panels, and u will need to weld in some sort of cage as with the roof gone it will twist slightly,

10th August 2010, 12:00 PM
A sedan without B and C pillars will lose pretty much all structual rigidity, If I was you.... Make it into some kind of targa top or if it being a utility is a must cut a section out of the roof and move it forward weld the rear doors and move the C pillar to about half way down the rear passenger window line, leaving the back seat area and boot as the tray...........Or go as per picture and looking like Peter Falconio's ute :)

Corona. Lol. Such as this..

HAHAHAHAHA that actually looks awesome.
you need to start with something thats already 2 doors. coupes have longer doors so you dont have to plate behind the front doors to fill them out unless your really short and sit really far fowrd.
svenmate
10th August 2010, 05:28 PM
Will have to try and see. :) But yeah, will be welding in a cage from b pillar forward and cutting the rooof behind the b pillar. Will start a build thread soon. Thanks for the help guys. :)

would probably be the same steps to turning the corona into a ute.

^^ Just about as cool as it gets.
svenmate
11th August 2010, 06:51 PM
That r31 is a more realistic example of what i want to do.
As much as i would like to cut just behind B pillar, the seat will not go far back enough.
Will have to dummy it up when we get working.

Why not? Everyone tries to style their cars the same way. Why? Why not make something different for everyone to hate? I love it... Being a salmon that swims against the current
marvis
12th August 2010, 05:31 PM
Because you will lose a lot of rigidity and bracing, will want to twist more etc. and will most likely looks like arse.

I have a welder and steel so bracing won't be a problem. If i cared about looks I would buy an EG6.

Not really. As I believe the roof and whole back section was rust, no metal left. Big holes the size of your head everywhere. Plus it wont be used for drifting I dont think, Daves too old. HAHA, sorry Dave.

You must care about how it looks as you are turning an sedan etc into a ute for no reson, just to be different?
You might be able to pull it off, I have only seen one ok one, the rest look like total shithouse.

I'm not aiming to meet a particular style. Want it to look good in a different way.
Less weight over rear wheels, able to carry stuff/people on the farm, more options for bracing.
