ae86 headlight problem.

my headlights turn off when i click the high beams on. anyone else had this problem?
was thinking it might be the stalk?

Bad connection in the stalk. Corroded, bad solder etc. Do they work when you flash the lights by pulling the stalk back? That will rule out the bulbs and the rest of the wiring.

I "solved" this problem in my ae71 by wedging a chunk of polystyrene between the stalk and the dash.

I'd suggest not doing this!

Yeah, I have this problem, I just keep attacking the stalk until they come on. :p

i'll have to check properly what exactly is going on the next time i go down to work on my 86.
its going through inspection soon so i dunno if i can get away with doing a dodgy job hahah

Could also be a problem in the headlight switch, as that's what mine was. A Poor connection lead to heat which then burnt through a track in the circuit board.

I recommend pulling it out and re-flowing all the solder joints for piece of mind anyway :)

They are most likely ~25 years old lol.

may also be a problem with the earthing side of the system
