Hey folks, I've pulled apart, repainted the centres and restored a set of 14X7 volk fins but I'm trying to work out if I've done something right. I did one pair of the wheels a few weeks ago and at the time I did a search on the net to work out what torque setting to tighten the bolts to. From memory I did them up to 45ft/lb. I've just done the other pair on the weekend but this time I found a different answer and did them up so far to 25ft/lb. So I don't know if I should continue to tighten the second pair to 45 or if I've actually overtightenend the first pair? The bolts are M8X1.25 S/S cap screws with S/S washers and flange nuts. There seems to be a lot of varying answers for the question as I have searched around and I'm wondering if that's because a different size bolt on a different size wheel is the reason for all the variation, also the amount of bolts on a wheel may change it too. Does anyone know if there's a torque setting specific to my wheel?

Cap heads from my lookin' around seem to all be grade 12.9 which puts them at 42Nm. What bugs me from here (http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=105440&page=77) is them saying 12.9's fail from corrosion. and you're said you've got SS cap heads, you sure they're not nickel coated?

I have the same wheels (except they're not volk or 3 piece) but I just tightened them up with a 1/2" ratchet and a short (like 4" long) allen key. That was years ago and they're still together with all fasteners intact.

100% sure they're Stainless and not nickel coated. 42nm is around 31ft/lb so halfway in the middle of all the different specs I've been getting. I'm tempted to individually undo each nut today and put a dab of loctite and retension to around the 30 to 40ft/lb mark.

I think if it's SS, it can't be grade 12.9 which would make it something else... of which I can't find yet. I'd try the torque of a grade 8 m8x1.25 bolt of 25Nm. I would just do it up to that and see how tight that is and go a little more if it feels loose.

Are there any identification marks on the bolts anywhere?
