Hey all,

im having a few issues with this build:

the AFM 4agze alternator wont fit in the rwd alt bracket, i spose i need a different alternator? Painful

the rwd water pipes off the back of the water pump foul on the knock sensor, ive no idea how to fix this cos its not like i can move the knock sensor anywhere else?

ill be running a standard rwd intake manifold, using the original fuel rail and stuff from the gze; do i really need to keep the tvis plate even though the tvis will be unplugged?

Cheers,

Andrew

the 4agze alternator is one of a kind, if you have it and need to get a 16v/20v one then your very much in luck. This is because the 4agze one is very hard to get and often asked for. Put it on ebay and get yourself a common pivot type.

For your metal line problem I have the solution:

this on the back of the pump, a short section of rubber hose and a joiner which I can all supply

Cheers Sam, a pivot type 4a alternator will be somthing for my parts wanted thread.

I would go with that fitting of yours, but ive already been through the trouble of finding the original water pipe in the effort to have the water system setup as it was from factory to eliminate all the previous problems ive had with the water system leaking and being generally messy. Also, i wanted to run the water lines to the throttle body like factory; cos i didnt do this with my old gze setup and it didnt idle smoothly. Does what you supply run water to the throttle body? In the original rwd 4age setup the knock sensor must be located elswhere on the block, right? Is it possible for the knock sensor on my gze block to be moved anywhere else?

Im asking a heap of questions cos i want my setup to be reliable this time round.

rwd 4a (except some mr2) didn't run a knock sensor.

4agze didn't idle properly because it's a 4agze, nothing to do with water lines.

Hmmm so if other 4a's dont run a knock sensor do i need one in a 4agte?

Stock ECU, you should probably run one.

aftermarket ECU, depends what the tuner uses to listen in.

Ill be running a haltech. So the tuner has more options than just the knock sensor to listen in on?

In that case ill probly bung off the hole and not run one, if the tuner can just use somthing else

clip-on knock ears, directional microphone, det cans, piece of copper tube connected to a milo tin with a hose or just plug into the microphone already installed in the block.

I have struck that problem with the water pipe before and found the perfect way around it.
You can cut the steel water pipe and turn the centre part 180 deg a weld it back in. Makes it go around the sensor and look almost original apart from the welds.
I did have a photo but cant find it.? Will look on my external drive tomorrow and post it if I find it.

The tuner will still need some sort of knock sensor somwhere to tune it and best results are from where the factory sensor is.

hey samq do you make that fitting with a AN fitting? i was going to get one welded on but im just seeing if you do it. im using it for coolant return from the turbo btw. also do you have something for the rear outlet? as i was going to weld a plate to cover up the end of the pipe and put another fitting off that to run coolant feed for the turbo

Does anyone know the answer to this one?

on my brothers ze im using a big port manifold with no tivis, you need to remove some collets and get shorter bolts

Ok so it can be done, but why do i need to remove collets? How many, do i only remove them from the intake side? Ill use the bolts off the gze manifold

You cant use the gze ones, the manifold plate is thicker, there are two collets you wont be able to bolt the new manifold with them on, you will see :)
