Hey All,
Had a look through the tech articles and couldn't see any basic fluids service thread. so i figure ill make one by taking all the info in here and making something up to sticky in the tech articles section.
What i need to know is the volume of fluid in:
Engine Oil
Coolant
Gear Box Oil
Diff (each series)
Also what oils you have used and had good results.
Here is what i was recommended by Trent at status tuning:
Engine:
10-40 Motol Chrono
10-60 Castrol Edge
Gearbox:
75-90 Motol ff LSD
75-90 Redline Shockproof Lightweight
LSD:
75-140 Motol Gear Competition
Coolent:
Martini Super Kool
Also if any one has any hints/tips to do all the fluids stick em here and when i do a write up ill take photos of the quickest and easiest way of doing things.

I just use toyota genuine oils for everything, engine, gearbox, LSD, ect....
But I get it all for free, haha, but seriously seems to work well gearbox was a bit noisy when I first got it and changed it when I got it and seemed better.

I'm using penrite 15-60 in the motor, around 4 litres with a oil cooler. Redline Shockproof Lightweight in the gearbox, just under two bottles so around the 1.8~9 litre mark. Diff again is penrite but i can't remember how much, maybe 1.5 litres?

Woolworths/coles brand oil change it every month. try to get 10w-30 or 40.
Cheap oil changed regularly is better than expensive oil changed at longer intervals. You'll only find out what the correct service interval by having your oil analysed. and if you want to know about what oil is best, ask the guys who do the oil testing.

i just switch from castrol edge full synthetic to penrite semi synthetic and although it is early days yet the car does seem to run a little smoother. the castrol that was in there wouldn't have been more than 2000km old. plus the penrite was $30!

Dave, which friction additive?
Silvia may have durablend 10w-30 with liqui-moly MoS2 anti-friction additive. Need to buy more diesel oil for this car and clean it out.
Corolla has the durablend 10w-30 or 10w-40

Engines with vvt should use 10w30 for our climate...
I use toyota oil which i've got a deal with one of the guys at the local dealership for $30 for 5L
They swear it is castrol oil, but meh it works.
Gearbox oil vmx-80 seams to go alright... Its amazing how many people neglect to change the gearbox oil, probably explains allot of the blown boxes out there.
