motor -
sr20

problem -
Piston not pump? just one of them i think

occurs/started when -
all the time.

personal situation (if applicable)-
Hey guys, I picked up a s13 silvia with an sr20 to go into my rolla. The Engine did work before my mate crashed the rear end and its been sitting in front yard uncovered for about a year now. The engine is hard to get started and once it does it stalls unless i floor it and it will slowly build revs but not much. Its like one of the pistons arnt pumping and the rest of them have to push it. Ive checked all the spark plugs and the dizzy. No idea, can anyone please help.:(

Fucked injector.
Dirty AFM.
Fucked fuel pump.
Bad fuel.
Fucked coilpack (if turbo).
Fucked ingnitor (if turbo).

Theres some things to start checking.

Problem found, retested the spark plugs ( in the dark this time, so i could see them ) it was actually one piston pushing the other 3 along. then tested all the plugs, they all worked so started swapped the lines around to test them and they all worked, so id say the dizzy is fucked. thanks anyway.

Sorry guys, i replaced the distributor and all sparkers are working. The cables are in the right places. the engine turns over but it wont start. It makes poping noises as the engine turns but no roar. I am researching at the moment, but just a bit of extra help would be REALLY handy. I need to pull the engine out tomorrow and get rid of the rest of the car tomorrow.

check that the distributor is actually in correctly, it could be out a tooth or two.

Alot of thanks guys, ill get onto the timing. Havnt really serviced or changed the oil. I dont think its worth the effort until I know for sure the engine runs.

Sounds like you have absolutely no idea what you're doing.

First off -

Check ignition timing, especially actual timing of the distributor.
Check cam timing, although if the motor was fine before, and you haven't touched it, there's no reason why this should be out.

Real question is, what have you fucked with between it coming out of your mates car and it going in to yours?

I dont have any idea of what im doing. Im 16 and never really played with an engine before, BUT! i think i know what im doing now. The timing is out because I had to replace the distributor anyway ( because it was banged up ), which i did and back last week and when i did this I had no idea about timing, and ive cranked the engine over. Havnt really touched anything else. I think i just gotta play around with the positioning of the dizzy, and how it sits on the cams, I think.
