AE86 Spoontah
1st April 2011, 03:01 PM
Hi all, I have just finished making 1 CAMS compliant harness mounting bar to suit AE86 hatch. It mounts to the four M10 bolts holes (2 each side) above the strut towers. All metal is 6mm mild steel and although it's not as light as others it's much stronger therefore safer in the event of an accident.
CAMS regulations state that "any mounting point affixed to an un-reinforced section of the shell body shall be reinforced by the use of plate not less than 75mm x 50mm x 3mm thick"
My end plates are 75mm x 95mm x 6mm thick and my harness mount plate is 250mm x 50mm x 6mm thick so it far exceeds the CAMS guidlines. The round bar is also 25mm x 6mm thick.
There are two 7/16 nuts welded underneath the plate so that you can screw in the 7/16 eyebolts that most harness manufacturers use.
The position of where it sits in relation to the height of the seat means that the harness will sit in the "acceptable range of angles for Safety Harness Belts"
