ae86: bouncing speedo issue

hey guys just wondering if you could help me out on something
Car: ae86 sprinter
problem: speedo needle was bouncing a couple of days ago and now has completely stopped moving all together, got a mate to check it out and the bottom of the cable that mounts to the gearbox was loose, the cable has not broken which is good but it appears to be missing a part, im just not sure what it is. speedo cable has a elbow type piece on the end of it but there much be another bit inside of it or between it and the gearbox that must have fallen out on the road.
any idea on what it is or where i can find one?

yup, cable snapped
the metal part that sticks into the gearbox at the bottom of the cable is all one peace internally, from connection of gearbox to your cluster, just source one that isnt snapped and replace the whole cable, thats the best fix

cheers rice86, can we still get cables new? can any other toyota models suit ae86's too like ae71's or ae82s?
